I didn't bother reading it all, but the key point: They're putting in an East-West Line on the Sendai Subway (Currently, there is but a single North-South Line). This new line will connect the Kawauchi and Aobayama Campuses with the downtown. It would have made getting around Sendai quite a bit easier. While they do have bus service between campuses and downtown, the subway will be much faster, and more convenient. However, it isn't forecast to be completed until 2015.
Not my branch of engineering, but I don't think subways ever travel steep, if any, inclines. It'd have to go deep enough to get under the river, so getting down to the subway from Aobayama will likely require some very long escalators... or a series of slides and poles! Why is it that the people who design these systems never consider the possibilities for endless amounts of fun? I'm sure subways are practical, but building a rollercoaster from point A to point B can't be much more difficult than making one that goes around.
