Last May, Jeshua came down to Austin to look for an apartment before he moved out here. I came up to visit him and goof off for a little bit then, and in our gallavanting that day, we stopped by the Neko2 anime shop. There, we found something ridiculous. So ridiculous that I wrote down the description on the box. I would like to emphasize that, according to its box, this Korean anime won the Best Pilot Prize at the Tokyo International Animé Fair in 2003, and also won the Viewer's Choice Award at the Big Apple Anime Fest in the same year.
Doggy Poo Tagline 1: "Sometimes dreams really do come true."
Tagline 2: "Everyone has a purpose..."
Box Literature:Once upon a time, a little doggy poo lived on the side of a road. He felt all alone in the world. He believed that nobody needed him for anything, and that he had no purpose in life. If only Doggy Poo had a reason for being, then he wouldn't give up on his dream to be useful in the world.
One day, Doggy Poo meets a lonely [could be "lovely"; my handwriting isn't the best, and I can't tell if it's an n or a v] dandelion sprout. Will she explain his purpose in life? Will she help him make his dream come true?
It could be that this anime sends a really good message. It could be that it's an excellent thing for children to watch. However, I have a really hard time getting past the concept of a talking, ambulatory dog shit.
ETA: Quick check reveals that the dandelion sprout is indeed "lovely", rather than "lonely". Also reveals that "anime" is perhaps not the correct word for this movie.
