How many of you know that the only reason gifts are given on Hanukkah is due to the commercialization of Christmas? That there is an actual holiday on the Jewish calendar where you're supposed to give gifts? Can you name that holiday?
As today was the only possible day to do so, I drove the 40 miles up to my sister's place to spend part of one day with her, her husband, and the two boys. I brought up a kosher turkey which had been defrosting since Sunday morning EARLY, three bags of stuffing (from Costco), cole slaw makings, a pumpkin bread and two chocolate babkas from Great Harvest Bakery (I need to tell them they need to put more chocolate into their babkas!). My sister's husband is not Jewish so they also celebrate Christmas, and I do not intrude on that celebration. The turkey went into the barbecue grill for 4 hours or so (after which my extra half breast was cooked there as well). I ended up falling asleep for about 90 minutes.
The food was good. The company was good. My sister didn't fall asleep until 5 this morning and when my youngest nephew got up, she had barely been asleep 3 hours! OUCH!!
I know we're not supposed to give gifts to the adults, but I keep finding stuff for my sister and her husband, so I get them and bring them. I don't get anything in return as far as a gift, but I don't expect it.
My sister finally went to sleep after dinner, and I left to return home, arriving around 6:30 PM. Tomorrow I'll go to Batteries Plus to get a new battery for my laptop. Otherwise, not much of anything this weekend.
