So I'm in Ottawa for the summer.
It happened really fast!
Liam and I were all set to be in Kingston for the summer. I was excited, we had our own (tiny) one bedroom apartment for very cheap, I was going to do summer Players, and I'm sure a job would have found me... Shira was in town, everyone was doing Players as well... it was gonna be great!
The move to our place was crazy! We had only found it two days before we had to be out of our own apartments - subletting in Kingston blew for some reason! So we thought my Dad was going to bring a trailer up to help us move - but surprise, my mom had to go to a funeral and took her own car, so he only had the smart car... which would not have been much help really. So what would be do? How the dude were we going to get all this furniture to the new place?!?
Well, on a whim, we decided to check out National, even though everyone else would surely be renting cars. Well, they were, but at about 3pm the day before we had to be out of our place, there was a huge 12 seater van we could have until 8am the next morning! We snapped it up, and moved our furniture literally all night, which was funny since it was all a surprise and not everything was even in boxes!
But we did it. April 30th we went to get keys cut for our new place. Happy! But on the way home, what a surprise... Bank of Canada called us, and offered Liam an amazing summer job in Ottawa that he had to take. After I cried all night because I was so stressed, had no Ottawa job, or place to live, couldn't do Players... we started planning. The next day we drove to Ottawa to look at some places to sublet, and luckily found one. I had immediately applied to some restaurant places on Kijiji, so I at least had some interviews to go to. We drove back Monday evening, and Tuesday we had rented a uHaul for 7am. We had to move out on Tuesday because a new subletter was coming in, and we couldn't afford to lose him, since he was taking over for us so we wouldn't have to pay anything for the place in Kingston, which was sweet! So 7am came, and we packed everything in our house up, and moved it all to Lindsay for the summer...
Spent three days in Lindsay which was nice, it was so nice not to do anything since we had been moving A LOT lately. We went and saw Star Trek with my parents, and did a lot of nothing. But Saturday came, so my Dad drove us over to Ottawa. We met the new roomates and unpacked, and went to this amazing Asian food place for dinner with my aunt, Ben, and his girlfriend. Spent the first night here, and it was alright. The first week was interesting - I was biking all around trying to find jobs and dropping off resumes. I bought a bike from Canadian Tire, and managed to figure out a bus there and bike all the way home... I was very impressed with myself. I landed a few babysitting gigs, so at least had some income. Now I'm sort of working at Mexicali Rosa's, but I have a second interview at a pub called D'arcy McGee's that I want.
Liam's job is going well, and we went over last weekend to visit Heff and Sarah, they made us pizza for dinner! I've run into two people from home here that I had no idea lived in Ottawa, and we went over to my aunt's and learned how to make potstickers! Shira was even in town this weekend surprisingly, and had us over for a crazy dinner with her family. We choreo-ed today, so at least I got to be part of the show a little bit.
Ottawa seems to be shaping up just fine I guess. It's a beautiful city, and it's exciting to be here, but I still miss Kingston a bit... I hate plan changes...
