Day 2: February 16, 2008
Soundtrack: The Weather Channel
Shannon: We woke up to a much hotter house than we went to sleep in. Luckily, we managed to solve that problem in about 15 minutes. Today it’s supposed to be cold, so we might walk around downtown and maybe look in some shops, and go grocery shopping.
Liam: The most I’ve been awake at 8:30 in a long time. I feel ready to go, I just hope I don’t crash and burn later, and I hope I don’t spend too much money. Have a nice, fun time.
Shannon: I thought you said rash and burn. I hope you don’t get a rash too.
Liam: If I do, it’ll burn.
Soundtrack: Shannon’s Mixed CD
Shannon: Today we went downtown. We got some sweet $5 parking.
Liam: After waiting in line at the full lot at the other one that would have cost us $25. The guy put the sign out right as we got there! We would have lost a lot of money. The parking lot guy gave me a weird look.
Shannon: Yeah, then you laughed at him. I was afraid.
Liam: The street was closed and we have to go back on the 417 to go over one block!
Shannon: Today I had a person compliment my hat that I had to buy because my ears got cold. I also had someone ask if I was wearing coloured contacts, and compliment my boots. Twice.
Liam: It was the same person.
Shannon: We went to this cool market place that had a lot of stores in the same building thing. We bought a caramel apple with sprinkles, man, was it ever good.
Liam: The trendy shops were neat.
Shannon: We went down Dalhousie and after thinking that Katie had lied to us, finally got to a strip of sweet stores. We noticed her artwork in one of them which was really cool, and we ended up going back there. The store attendants asked the people in the store what their favourite smells were, so we started thinking. I said laundry.
Liam: Although weary about whether the trendy shop keeps were going to be vegans or not, said bqqed meat.
Shannon: The girl was like “Ohhhhh meat!” It was pretty funny. They knew Katie too. We went to Parliament and there were some Canadian Action Party guys there, it was interesting. We threw some money on the burning fountain, but we couldn’t get a tour, the line was too long, and it was too cold.
Liam: We saw the cats!
Shannon: And the squirrel… it had a broken leg, and crawled under a bench to die, but some Asian kids kept kicking snow at it. We had cappuccino and hot chocolate at I Deal Coffee, they had bags and bags of coffee there, and you had to walk down some stairs to get to the bathroom. It was pretty good.
Liam: It was neat. They had mugs that looked like they were just bought from Value Village. They must have been minimalists. We also went to the info center.
Shannon: The girl was really helpful and highlighted stuff for us, and I got a lot of pamphlets of things we can do.
Liam: Next time… haha.
Shannon: They also had a huge model of the city and when you pressed the button of a place you wanted to go to, it lit up! How handy. We both saw people we knew! I saw Meg Carruth in American Apparel, it was very surprising. Liam saw an old girlfriend he doesn’t like. She tries to add him on Facebook. He declines.
Liam: 3 times.
Shannon: On the way home, we got nothing but green lights walking down Metclaf! Also on the way there, it was amazing. This morning we went shopping at Loblaws. NOT Independent Grocers. Someone wasn’t happy. We did get great sandwich fixings though, and chocolate milk! Except the bakers wouldn’t slice my bread thickly. Should have gone to Independent…
Liam: The deli guy, he was nice.
