I'm going to try to post a fun/interesting fact every couple of days. Maybe these facts will prompt you to read more about the topic or stimulate the creative juices?
Did you know...
In an attempt to further discredit the AC (alternating current) electric power system (as developed by Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse), Edison had his employees Harold P. Brown and Arthur Kennelly design the first electric chair (although they did not invent it). Although Edison was against capital punishment, he supported and promoted the electric chair because it used AC. This helped further his smear campaign against AC, which he claimed was more lethal than his favored DC (direct current) electric power system. Edison also tried but failed to popularize the term "Westinghoused" as an alternative to "electrocuted".
Sanctuary tie-in
HELEN: You don't believe I can accomplish Nikola's task.
JAMES: One, he had the powers of an ancient vampire. Two, he fell asleep in Edison's electric chair at full current. I don't see your skill sets overlapping.
