Chips..

Please explain.

If you leave chios out for a period of time, esp in humidity, they go soggy.. right. Ok I get it. If you leave chips out in the air they go stale.. sure, there are pollutants and a certain about of humidity in the air anyway.

How come the air thats already inside the packet doesn't make them go stale?

This came up in the staff room today.. So I phoned Smiths. Now everyone at school, and smiths think I'm mad. But hey we all wanted to know, no one else was game enough to call.

Her explanation was that the air inside the package is controlled, eg. Humidity, no pollutants etc, therefore it takes them much longer to go stale. Still.. the fact that it has air in it, and compared to the amoutn of time it takes to go stale outside the package is a mystery, or really concerning about what is in the air we breathe..
