Naked

Lately, I've had cravings to do something. To do more somethings.

One of those is to make my life less synthetic, less "chemical", less mainstream, more natural.

Okay, so, one example is I want to totally give up buying mass-produced perishable groceries. I'm tired of supporting livestock cruelty, tired of hormones, tired of assembly line bullshit. I gave up buying mass-produced eggs last week! That's a start. I need to talk to my various parental figures here and find out what our local market is like. I've wanted to go to our farmer's market forever, but have no idea where/when it is. I also have not discounted raising chickens. :P

I gave up over-the-counter makeup about two years ago, and use mostly mineral-based makeup, now. The whole gamut is natural, even my chapstick is beeswax based, my lipstick is cocoa butter(it's freakin' edible...). The mineral stuff's shelf life is basically infinite because it doesn't contain processed organic matter and there's no preservatives. My skin thanks me for that. :) I'm slowly switching over to natural "toiletries" too. Shampoo, conditioner, soap.. all whipped up by hippies! Okay, maybe not hippies, but they love the environment and that's good. I'm waiting on a package so I can try out some deodorant. These companies also do not test on animals, and they use recycled materials. h00t! Hell, I even feed my DOG food without nasty "fillers".

This week I'm going over things in my head; what else can I replace with natural/organic stuff? Laundry detergent! Yes. And dishwashing liquid. I found a company called Seventh Generation that makes natural products and am going to try out/investigate them. Just think, I could wash my clothes without petrol chemicals. Yay! Clothing would probably be one of the hardest things to make "natural" in life. Well, easily, that is. I mean, potatoes don't come in huge burlap sacks anymore, so sewing up a ol' fashioned sack dress wouldn't be as easy as it used to be. ;) "Is she kidding or not?" Heee!

I like natural.

My makeup looks leagues better than the mainstream crap ever did, my hair is softer and thicker than ever, and my skin is healthy. Yeah, so, uh, why do we let convenience rule us then degrade our overall health? :) I dunno, Vern!

life, body
