wouldnt have let any of you back in
you soured, virused up, would, in my mind need to
sit, and breathe and simmer in the lock up quarantine
until you can prove that you can...still go
to the tune that they're playing
the one i don't understand
i think it must be worse
and i love you and i care for you
which is why
i wouldn't have let any of you back in
go back to your goddamn dreams and pray that
you can find your way around a weekend your hands
around your fatty thighs its a hell of a country
you can and you cannot judge it by the
fluorescent lights growling engines and rotting literary delights
you can and you cannot judge it by the
hand outstretched children sick on waves of corn sugar grain
the chaff spread far and thin and suffocating
the ones who didnt want you and are glad you left
shake your hand and wobble and cry and dont have any goddamn jobs for you
it's your only reward but dont come crying to me i couldve told you yesterday
that you were young and stupid and tried not to let your naivety rub off of me
im the smart one
im the smart one
im the smart one
when the bough breaks i have to chase my neighbor down
oh, i got over it
still.
i wouldnt have let you back in
not in those clothes.
