im excited to do the allegory of the cave... but...

there are a number of reasons why i am not:
one of them being that what has made these past two years successful is that both of our shows took place in worlds all their own, worlds that don't have the same physical laws and such as our world. and this year, they want to have this play take place in this world... that leaves us with less to work with.

another is that it's going to be utterly impossible to write a play about it.

and also, we're gonna need to have something that distinguishes us, something that sets us apart; the play surely can't be boring. we need dancing... or music... or movement... or masks (which could work easily) or strange voices... or puppets... or shadows behind a screen (which could also easily work).

but it's no use thinking about those things that might not work for our show. i'd rather brainstorm ideas. we could do something where there's a group of ppl that's entirely brainwashed by some leader or simply by society, and one person figures out that something is not right, and he tries to tell the other ppl, and none of them want to listen to him. it's kind of like the giver. i wonder if lois lowry based her entire book on the allegory of the cave. it sure seems like it. it would be amazing if we could do somehting like the giver, since it does take place in a world that's different from our own.

but we could also do something where someone's spouse is unfaithful, and the other person knows deep down but is unable to truly see deep down who his/her spouse truly is.

or we could have something even more literal, like little children who see shadows in their room at night, and think that they are monsters, and one kid realizes that they're just leaves blowing outside creating shadows on the walls.

there's so many possibilities... oh wait, actually that's a good idea. yeah, i kinda like that. if it were at an orphanage, and there were all these little kids who stayed up at night and saw the leaves on the wall and never knew that it was just the leaves. there could be this whole like myth about the leaves that they'd made up, and like rituals and stuff, like kids are. in that sense, it could be a whole "world" since the world of kids is very different than the world of adults. i dunno, i can just see that working out. and i mean, we could even show these kids growing up there and keeping the myths about the "monsters" and truly believing it until one day, one boy is forced to go outside and sees that it's just leaves. and we could have a screan at the back of the stage with ppl doing the leave shapes behind the screen. maybe the kids could be like deathly sick and are never allowed to go outside because their lungs are too weak or w/e, and then one of the boys gets well and can finally go outside. that could actually be a good idea.
