Tuesday was occupied by a frantic house cleaning spree, cause the next day mum's friend's husband was installing our new vertical blinds (lol, keeping up appearances -its all a lie, a cover-up!)
Mum had told us to start cleaning a fortnight ago, but as always, we leave it to the last day.
why does it always end up this way? cleaning is not that difficult, sometimes it's so mind-numbing that it becomes fun... but just couldn't be bothered, don't know where to start, too overwhelming, so many other interesting things to do instead... kinda reminds me of the struggles with writing a uni essay or studying for an exam.
well... our house is clean & tidy now... for now... (it actually feels pleasant to live in).
At the start of Dec, Mum firmly resolved not to put up any Christmas lights or decorations outside this year -because electricity is too expensive, & apparently we're lazy when it comes to packing it away afterwards.
but then our Buddist neighbours put up a wreath with a "Merry Christmas" on their door, & Mum felt ashamed to be Catholic. so then next thing, i'm outside helping her put tinsle & christmas disco balls around our front garden. Her rationalisation is "we have to show the Muslims we're Christian" lol. At the moment, it looks pretty ugly at daylight, but it will look better at night, especially when we'll put the rest of the lights up.
However, i am really skeptical as to how long the decorations will last out there. We have no fence, nothing stopping anyone from taking FREE christmas decorations. Am i being neurotic? paranoid? i think my concerns are justified when we consider those ppl who steal laundry baskets for no reason *cough Alyssa*. Also, in previous years, ppl have stolen our big christmas party lightbulbs, slashed our 2m inflatable/light-up Santa, tried to rip out some of our light cords & try to egg our house. We need a fence. i reckon it won't last long ...place your bets.
Tues evening, Vera had her yr10 graduation mass. She really wanted me to go, but i really couldn't be bothered. i felt slack, but then felt better cause i gave her $50. Lucky i didn't go, cause she won an award/trophy for "leadership in learning" & dad was so proud & kept going on & on & on about it (sibling rivalry lol).
