So. I'm still in WW, but for some reason...it's doing nothing for me. I have about 6 more weeks left. I'm so busy that I don't have time to cook REAL, healthy meals...so I'll usually just grab a Smart Ones TV dinner which I simply can't do anymore and still expect to lose weight by my next WI...they have so much sodium and now it really shows up. So, I've gained a lot and each week I'll alternate- if I gain one week, I'll lose the next, etc etc. I'm still down 12lbs. though from when I first started WW. Ironically, I feel REALLY good and FEEL much skinnier- my engagement ring is flopping all over my finger! I'm always laying out in the sun in my bathing suit...and working on my thesis out in the field sweating my butt off! So, the number on the scale makes me sad, but I feel better than I did when I was a few pounds lighter! I guess that's all that really matters, I know I've put on a few pounds of muscle this summer.

So, I think my body needs to try something new and I need to kick it up a gear or two. I'm still going to be doing WW, but it will be a little more modified. Think: "WW/SOUTH BEACH/OPRAH" diet. I'm going to try to eat a lot less carbs, and fill up mainly on protein (which will be good for packing on the muscle). I also really want to try to eat a lot less processed foods that have nasty preservatives, etc. Mainly my diet will consist of: MEATS, CHEESES, EGGS, FRUITS/VEGGIES, and some WHOLEGRAINS/OATS. Pretty normal...just good old fashioned healthy foods. When I come back from working out I feel so good and pumped...and just plain healthy...it only feels natural to grab a bowl of oatmeal or some carrots as opposed to....a donut or something. That actually kind of grosses me out.

Speaking of working out, my mom and I just started at a new gym which is absolutely the best thing in the world! We have a personal trainer for an amazing price, and we're getting in workouts that are insane- they're probably as difficult/fulfilling as the workouts I experienced in crew!!! M-W-F we mainly do weight training for 2 hours mixed in with some aerobics. On T-R-S I do cardio on the elliptical or treadmill for 30min. We just started this on Monday, and today is Friday...but omg...I feel amazing. I've already gone up a lot in what I can benchpress, etc...I feel so good...lean...and tight...even though I'm not ha- but I feel tighter than I did, say, a week or two ago. I'm so excited about this. and I love our personal trainer...he makes me so excited to reach my goals and makes me happy when I walk in there in the morning. It's a really tiny hole-in-the-wall place with only a few members that are all really close and friendly with each other- none of the size 0 chics running around like they're hot shit at this gym! Instead, we have lots of normal people who are dedicated to being healthy and helping the rest of us get to where we want to be. There is one woman (Madeline- hence the name of my new goal) who we've been working out with on M-W-F and she's going out of town until October...it is my goal to make her say, "WOW! YOU LOOK GREAT!" by the time she gets back from her trip! So, if I lose a pound per week, that will bring me to 185lbs by the time she gets back...which isn't A LOT, but it should be a little more noticeable especially since I'll probably be WAYY more BUFF in 11 weeks. (Hopefully I'll REALLY surpass this goal, I think this is more than likely the case.)

I'm also on this new drug. Doctors think that since I'm not getting my period (unless I'm on b/c pills) I might have polycystic ovary syndrome -or I might just have cysts on my ovaries and not have the ACTUAL disease -OR it might be a random symptom from my Lyme. Anyway, it's called 'metformin' and it is actually a diabetic drug since people with PCOS usually have insulin resistance --and hence makes it harder for them to lose weight. I'm supposed to take it twice daily, but it upsets my stomach like CRAZY that I haven't been so strict in that. Sometimes I'll only take it once a day, or I'll skip an entire day if it's that bad (which is okay and safe to do). But, I've been taking it for about 2 months now, and so far, I can notice that my periods are WAY more intense I'm getting KILLER cramps that just make me want to die. This is good because I'm on the drug for a few reasons: 1)to see if it helps me lose weight, 2)to see if I have the syndrome, and 3)to see if I can get my period while I'm not on b/c and hence, make it easier to get pregant (when the time comes!). Usually women will start metformin which then regulates their period so they can eventually conceive naturally...I'm usually not all about taking random drugs, but I figured the +'s for this totally outweighed the -'s. Also, preliminary tests say it helps prevent diabetes in people who are prone to getting it (i.e. ME because everyone in my family has it and because I'm obese). So, hey, I'm gonna start taking it twice daily -eventually the stomach thing will go away- so then I can see if it actually does something for me I guess.

*phew* long update huh? Anyway, to sum up, the scale says I'm doing pretty badly, but my mental and physical state disagree. Instead of weighing in at WW once a week, I will now WI at the gym once a week- so I'll still have to face that once WW ends! I'm going to focus on eating BETTER and HEALTHIER. I'm going to be taking fiber, a daily vitamin, my metformin and drinking LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of water.
