One of the many cool things about homeschooling? You can accomodate your child's learning style, unique interests and requests. TJ has picked world geography, human anatomy, and sign language for his "fields of study" . I've devised a 3x3 plan. The 3 "R"s are the tools you use to explore the 3 fields of study. You then use the 3 areas of expression (movement, art, socializing) to incorporate the new knowledge into your own schema and use it with purpose and fulfillment as a part of society. It's a blend of Filial/ Montessori/ Charlotte Mason styles.
I've got this week's lessons done. Still working on a few details for the year's scope and sequence. Curriculum for the 3 "R"s is both the most critical and most expensive. As we review and platform for a more rigorous study In those areas, I will be bargain hunting.
Biggest decision is math. Singapore math is popular since they've been #1 in national ranking of mathematics performance several years. But it's very textbook/worksheet heavy and dry. Right Start math uses the Japanese model of mental math and an abacus (I have always wanted an abacus) . At $215 for the year 1 kit, it's the biggest investment. But subsequent years only need new teacher guides. Math U See looks really cool. Kinda of using the abacus method of making 5s and 10s, but with special colored cubes. His decimal.street concept is awesome. Stroll over and check out some of the free videos.

Each level comes with a DVD of short videos of each concept. Levels have Greek names. TJ tests ready for Alpha. Of the three, this is actual the most economical and balances hands on with drill mastery.
And now mommy/teacher should get some sleep as well. Much fun exploration of new/ exciting things to happen tomorrow.
