It bears mentioning how incredible television has been for the past few years. Yes, there is a lot of insufferable garbage out there (The Hills, Tyra, etc.) but as I make my way through season 2 of The Sopranos--arguably the show that started it all--and having just finished the amazing pilot for Breaking Bad, I can't help but consider that TV has surpassed movies as the premier visual storytelling medium of the 21st century.
After a preliminary compilation of my favorite films of the last decade, I have come to the conclusion that there was not a single film that has enthralled and inspired me in the same way as did The Wire or Mad Men, nor has any made me laugh as much as the countless brilliant comedy programs such as The Office, 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny..., Curb Your Enthusiasm, Tim & Eric, Wonder Showzen, and about a dozen more.
I used to get annoyed by those smug assholes who would declare that they "don't watch" TV. Now I feel bad for them. You're missing out, man.
What are your favorite shows?
