HEY I AM A GIRL AND HAVE YOU MET MY OBNOXIOUS GAY MALE FRIEND!?!? HE IS SO FUNNY; EVERY RESPONSE HE MAKES IS FLIPPANT AND RUDE BUT THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE HE IS GAY SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO LIVE UP TO THE SAME STANDARDS AS REAL PEOPLE, NOPE, HE CAN JUST BE AS MUCH OF AN ASSHOLE AS HE WANTS BECAUSE OHMIGHOD HE IS SO FUNNY I LOVE HIM. I feel like I've met this person four or five times within the past year and he has a different body/face/name each time. I feel badly for using the term "gay male friend" as a pejorative, but I am talking about a very specific personality type, one that is commonly denoted for its flamboyance and biting wit. For a while I was under the impression that all the "gale male friends" (as I will now refer to them) were naturally funnier than the average person, but now I am not so sure that's the case. I am starting to think that maybe some girls just find the novelty of having a gay male friend so be so adorable that anything that comes out of said gay male's mouth is instant comedy gold and thus they've learned to say pretty much whatever they want whenever they want. It's like when I like my dog lick my plate every night after dinner even though I know its bad for her and it'll cause bad behavior but I can't help it because aww just look how cute she is! Please tell me I am not the only one to have noticed this.
I'm glad to see that The Office is getting better since the show returned from the writer's strike. They left off in November with a pretty bad taste on my mouth, but the last few episodes have been considerably less wacky and more thoughtful, albeit darker, than the almost Homer Simpson-esque antics of Michael Scott and the gang at the start of season 4.
30 Rock is consistently great too. I am such a fan of The Office's minimalism (hand-held cameras, lack of background music), that I often overlook 30 Rock's brilliance but it's a very funny show and has failed to disappoint me thus far.
I've been listening to Bon Iver's For Emma, Forver Ago and Low's Things We Lost in the FIre albums almost non-stop for the past few weeks. If anyone could recommend anything similar I'd greatly appreciate it.
