Now that I have more free time than ever, I've been drawing less. I know, it's weird. Sometimes drawing and doing artwork can seem like a chore to me and if I mess up I become very frustrated and abandon the project all together. This will hopefully change when I finally get a goddamn job and save up for a decent digital camera so I can make more of those photocopy comics that I've started to make. Anyway, every once in a while I do get a decent drawing done or I touch up on an old one enough so that it's presentable. Here's a few I've done within the last two years or so.
This is a drawing I did of Larry David while I was sitting outside wating for class one day. This real cute girl in my American Lit. class was sitting next to me and telling me all about how she loved Curb Your Enthusiasm and I just kind of nodded because A)I'm a dipshit and B) I had a girlfriend at the time. On top of that, some teacher passed me by and asked if I were an art student and I told her I had never taken an art class in my life which, somehow, impressed the hell out of her. Whatever. She was old and wasn't wearing glasses so who knows. God, I hope that girl remembered me.
This is just a drawing of me. I liked how it turned out so much that I decided it was good enough on its own whereas otherwise I would have put it in the context of a cheap-joke comic or something. I did this almost two years ago, I think, when I actually kind of looked like that.
I made this of my friend Danielle a few years ago and I told her I did a drawing of her and never ever showed her--which has to be incredibly frustrating--so here it is. Sorry I made you look like E.T.
My friend was telling me about this guy she used to date who was in his near 30s and looked kind of like this except he couldn't pull it off like Jarvis Cocker. He just looked like a cock. I hate drawing hair and give up pretty easily, as you can see.
This was one of those that ended up being too shitty to turn into a comic, but interesting enough to keep. I'm not really good with shading or shadows but when you are skinny and white like me I guess it doesn't matter.
Same as above, really. I thought the drawing ended up pretty shitty (I look like a capybara) but I like it enough to keep. Apparently, I also get in really bad moods.
This started out as a picture of Zach Galifianakis that I wasn't too happy with and ended up as a picture of Zach Galifianakis that I can live with. His DVD is called "Live at the Purple Onion" which might explain the purple skin. I don't know, really.
It's supposed to be David Cross, but it could also be a myopic Michael Stipe with terminal gay AIDS. You pick.
This is after I finished reading a book about Elliott Smith and, as you can tell, my version of him looks disturbingly female.
Thank goodness Will Oldham has a very odd-shaped head or else this drawing (that I finished today) would have been a lot harder to pull off.
Okay, and finally I present a "lost" Alex comic that I found while cleaning out and organizing some of my stuff today. I barely remember drawing this thing and although I did a bad job drawing my face and body without a reference, I think it's actually a pretty funny comic:
