entry refuting the assertion that the 2004 presidential election was decided on "moral issues". This may be contrary to the media's interpretation of Bush's victory yet I don't think either answer makes much sense to me.
Before I continue, I must admit that, in my first election, virtually everything I voted for lost. John Kerry's loss was not a suprise to me, not because I sensed an overwhelming support for Bush, but rather what was an underwhelming performance from the senator. Many whom I know didn't bother to vote as they did not like either candidate.
What suprised me, and troubles me, is the win for the amendment which required minors in this state to attain parental approval before getting an abortion. On the surface it sounds like a righteous cause; parents should be involved any of their children's medical procedures. Hell, my mom had accompanied me to the dentist until I was at least 17. However, let's assume I did not want my mother to know I had any cavities in fear that she would disown me (my mother is, by the way, a dental assistant); so I pull the teeth out myself. Wise? Absolutely not. Then again, it wouldn't have been wise for me to have eaten all those sugary sweets to begin with. Now let's assume that this situation is verisimilar, as I take you to a country where having a cavity and going to the dentist to have it fixed is the ultimate shame. Would it be reasonable to allow a yellow-toothed dingbat to anonymously have this procedure done for else he/she would undoubtably take the risk of doing it themselves?
This has nothing to do with the preservation of human life or the the ideal that there should be less abortions in this country. What this concerns is an inevitable situation; abortions are going to occur regardless of the law or especially any religious doctrine. The whole idea behind "pro-choice" is that sluts, tramps, whores and, oh yes, rape victims, wont have to die along with their unborn children (which, until at the least the second trimester are more like parasites).
This then brings up the whole "when does life begin?" issue, which, by the way, is only applicable to humans, it seems. We can slaughter cows until there are none left to come home, yet if you splash some spooge on an egg, all of a sudden it's precious life. Give me a break! I don't see how Mel Gibson could be so steadfast in shunning stem-cell research when he wastes 20 million sperm daily when he jacks off to The Passion of the Christ.
Whether or not this occured as often as reported, voting based soley on religious practice and beliefs is complete, total, 100% pure horesehit. Especially when there are wars, ecomomic factors and a plethora of secular issues which effect us with much more resonance than dudes kissing.
