Author's Note: Formspring request for a Taec/Jia. I'm making this a two-parter. The 'fun stuff' comes in part 2, lol.
---PART 1---
Taecyeon's glass was refilled. It was the third...no fourth drink, after the two shots he had taken earlier. He tipped the glass and looked through it, as if examining if this latest topoff had more or less alcohol in it. It didn't matter. Even the lenses settling on his nose felt like they were losing their purpose, his sight blurring already from the amount of warm liquid that had gone down his throat. Taecyeon took another sip and set the glass back down.
This was how he spent most of his lonely nights after the office. His uniform was the usual, black tie, crisp white shirt, ironed black pants. There wasn't always this much alcohol ingested, but he felt especially lonely that night. He tried a sleek new bar, but the atmosphere of couples and happy people irked him. His closest friend was the bottle the bartender gave him. So, trying to be a steady companion, kept it nearby and attended to.
"Nice lenses."
Taecyeon turned to his left and saw a thin woman with short brown hair. She stood there in a black, fitted minidress, and he was stuck with the glass near his mouth. Even inebriated, he could see her beauty, but let himself gape a little too long.
"So can I sit down, or do you plan to stare all night?"
"Oh. Sure, sit." He shoved the glasses further up his nose, "...and thanks for the compliment...I guess."
She crossed her legs as he set down the drinking glass in his full hand, his line of sight gliding up her long pale legs. They stopped at the edge of her dress, but he brought his eyes back up to hers quick. She simply smiled, thinking her mission accomplished in catching his eye.
"My name is Jia."
"Taec."
He shifted back in his chair to face the wall of the bar and his beloved bottle.
"So Taec," she started, "why is a cutie like you sitting here alone?"
Taecyeon thought this seemed too easy; suspicious. He let out a huff and let a million and one presumptions fall into his head. Any other moment, he would have kept quiet, the silent man in the corner cubicle of his offices, but right then he was drunk, his mouth running of its own accord.
"Cutie?" he coughed.
"Yeah...so what do you think about buying me a drink?" Jia questioned.
Taecyeon turned to her in his stupor and let his thoughts fall out of his mouth. "Okay...how much?"
"Excuse me?" she scoffed.
"You didn't hear me...how much?" he repeated.
Jia immediately looked beyond offended.
"What? Isn't that how this works?" Taecyeon asked.
Her arm swung quick and her hand struck him hard across the face. His head was shifted and he spilled the remnants of drink in his glass across the area of the bar.
"Asshole."
Jia stormed off, leaving Taecyeon to think a moment. Taecyeon didn't like being lonely, but he was literally struck with how and why he was so alone. This bottle wasn't his friend, and he knew he couldn't find it in another glass. The bartender was behind the counter, sighing and gathering towels. Taecyeon finally asked to pay his tab.
"Sir, your bottle's not finished," the server stated.
"I know. ...I won't need it. Man, I fucked up."
He straightened his glass on the counter and put down some bills before he hustled outside, off toward Jia with a sincere apology. His walk was hurried between tables and chairs before he hit the cool air outside and saw a familiar pair of legs walking toward a car lot. Taecyeon ran over, business tie flowing over the shoulder of his white shirt. He called out to her and saw her shift and lean against a wall before she turned to him. He saw the slightest bit of tears on the edges of her eyes.
"Hey...back there," he started, brows knotted and breath caught, "that was out of line. ...I'm sorry. I'm drunk. It was shitty of me to say that to you. You're...a beautiful woman and you deserved some respect."
His hands went to his hips as she crossed hers, both of them trying to gain some balance.
"Jia right? Um, at least let me call you a cab, okay?"
She sniffled and nodded in agreement, watching as he shuffled up and down the street to wave down traffic. He finally flagged one down and opened the door for her, but rushed to her aid when he saw her stumbling again. His hand came around her waist, making her pause, but she reluctantly threw a hand over his shoulder, knowing she needed the help. Jia stepped into the cab's backseat as Taecyeon asked how much her ride would be.
"Wait," she said, making all parties pause their movement, "...I'm just as drunk as you. ...look we might as share a cab. ...do you mind?"
Taecyeon didn't take long to think about it.
"...alright," he answered.
Jia shifted over in the chair and Taecyeon took his seat. He would've taken one back home anyway. At least she was talking to him, and maybe he'd at least have a friend by the end of the night.
"Taec...let's start again...cool?"
He had that same huff come out of the back of his throat, but shook his head in agreement.
"Cool," she continued. "So...what do you do. Besides uh...saying painfully offensive things to women?"
"Okay I said sorry. I'm a jackass."
"And besides being a jackass?" They both laughed before she finished her reply. "I complimented you earlier on being 'cute.' I think I'm deserved the right to say at least one mean thing to you. Since you thought me a whore and all."
"...fair enough." He took off his glasses to rub at them with the bottom part of his tie. "I work in an office building. Shared corner cubicle. Accountant. Hate my boss. The usual. It pays fine but it could be better. ...and you? What do you do?"
"I...dance."
