Family history discovered so far:
-Grampa's dad worked here, either as a busboy or an actual restaurant owner. Moved back to China after getting some money, never came back.
-Grandma's older sister married here, and was able to bring grandparents and their kids (thus including my dad) to here
-Dad began work when he was 17, before graduating from high school.
-When he first got here, Dad had $200 on him only.
-He lived in Guangzhou, big city, poor
-When he got here, he was still dating Mom. They had been together for a few years. At some point, my dad had moved to Hong Kong for a couple years, with Mom simply waiting for him. After less than a year, he went back from San Francisco to China and married Mom. She came here half a year after that.
-Dad worked as a busboy before I was born, and started going into carpentry work when I was born (he had learned construction stuff back in China). Back then he worked for others, it was a while before he became self-employed...when was that? I'll ask next time.
This stuff is so mundane, so why is it that my head is swirling around it? I feel I'm almost on the verge of tears.
My purpose is renewed.
