Not intentionally.
It happens in my line of work. People are too old or too sick or too young or too damaged, and we can't save them. Does that make us killers? Not usually. But sometimes we make a bad call, about a drug or a treatment, and we end up feeling guilty, knowing that we've killed someone.
We can't agonise over every patient, or we'd never stop, but the ones we kill, the ones we have to take responsibility for help us become better doctors. We are reminded they're people, with families. We're reminded we're not god, we're not infalliable. We have to be vigilant or people will die. But we also have to remember that because we aren't god, mistakes will happen, and while we must recognise them, if we let them freeze us up, more people will die.
