Six people sit in a room together, a circular table the only thing separating them, a pile of food on that same table, their plates empty.
A ritual has been made. Every Thanksgiving, they stand in a circle, or sit, and play a game. Giving Thanks, they call it. Although two or three have mumbled about it being a stupid game (Ron, and Malfoy for instance), they go along with it.
“I’m thankful that this damned war is finally over,” said Ron.
“Ronald, you’ve been saying that for ten years now,” Hermione replied.
“Yeah, but it doesn’t make it any less true. Harry?”
“I’m thankful for my wife, and three children,” Harry replied.
“I’m thankful for everything,” Hermione said softly. “The good, the bad, the neutral. I’m thankful for it. I’m thankful that everything has a reason for happening---no matter what it is.”
“I’m thankful I didn’t kill Dumbledore, despite the Dark Lord’s orders,” Draco said.
And the game when on like that for an hour, sometimes three, and they’d sit there, saying what they were thankful for.
“I’m thankful that we keep charms on the food to keep all of it from getting soggy, cold, stale, etcetera,” Ron finally piped up after he couldn’t think of anything else to be thankful for.
Everyone laughed.
“I’m thankful for the woman of my dreams,” Draco finally said. “And that even though it took me so long to realize things that you have no business knowing---Potter, Weasley---she stood by me regardless of it all.”
Silence filled the air, until a choked sob came from Hermione direction. Everyone turned to her, only to find her chair empty.
Then, they heard an ‘oomph’ from Draco’s direction. When they looked over at him, his arms were around Hermione’s waist as he kissed her thoroughly.
