This is Shannon's Mom. She called yesterday ... strep throat! They leave Sun. for Egypt, and she'd love mail. I'll try to cut & paste two updates, plus her addresses.
Shannon arrived at boot camp on Thursday June 15th and immediately began helping to set up for the teams that would be arriving on Tuesday - hers being one of them. The weather welcomed her with wonderful breezes and no humidity, something highly unusual for Merritt Island. They set up tent sites and began to get united as leaders. There are 4 leaders on this team, all with prior Teen Missions experience. There are an additional 17 girls and 8 guys on the team, 6 of whom have prior experience with Teen Missions.
There are some very specific rules regarding male and female conduct while in Egypt. Due to the Islamic culture of Egypt, girls and guys are not permitted to speak with one another in public. Nor are the girls allowed to look at males directly in the eyes, as this is an invitation to improper actions. Females are never to be alone in public and they are to keep their eyes down. No one is to discuss Israel or the Jews at all. They are practicing the proper behaviors while at boot camp.
The daytime highs are expected to be between 110° - 125° F, with nighttime lows around 80° F. Though this is a dry heat they will still need to be careful especially using sunscreen and a hat.
They depart boot camp on July 9th. Beginning July 10th or 11th there will be weekly updates on the website that are communicated from the field. The web address is www.teenmissions.org Look under summer teams overseas reports. The team # is 06012.

Shannon just called late yesterday afternoon - of course, I thought the worst … they’re not allowed to call home until they’re leaving from the airport …. What could possibly be so terrible that she has to call home? But she didn’t sound upset …
Turns out that she has strep throat and is in the nurse’s tent … she was just calling because she didn’t think she had all of her health info! Whew!
Turns out that 3 team members have strep and one member is on immunosuppressants, so they have to be careful not to pass it to her. So please pray that they get over it quickly.
She said though that the biggest concern is one boy, Cory, who has a lot of issues . It’s causing a lot of trouble for the team - they’re losing patience with him. Pray please for the leaders as to how to handle him, and for the team members, too.
Below are her addresses if you’d like to write her (& she’d LOVE letters!):
