Alright, in the hopes of pumping some much-needed life back into this shabby comm, how's about a friending meme? Everyone loves making new pals, right? Riiiight??? Guess we're about to find out...

I added a TV show question to the list, thanks to alorarose bringing that omission to my attention. I am sorry I fail at modding and memes, y'all. But we have ( Read more... )

THE BASICS:
You Can Call Me [name]: Call me Ishmael Vaidah
You Can Find Me In [location]: Long Island, NY, when I'm not on a plane going somewhere. I do that, a lot.
You Can Buy Me Cake On [birthday]: August 13th, the coolest day of the year!

BECAUSE LISTS ARE FUN:
10 Books I Wholeheartedly Recommend: 10? wow, okay.
1. The Beka Cooper books by Tamora Pierce. They were my introduction into the Tortall books and I fell in LOVE! Beka's a total badass and I need like 400000000 more books!
2. The Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. If you need to read something that's quick and will have you laughing the ENTIRE time, read these books.
3. The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman. Ever since I visited Masada, I've been really interested in it's history and wow is their history. I could not put this book down and all the stories were woven together so nicely.
4. Mr. Kiss and Tell by Rob Thomas. Because Veronica Mars.
5. The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. Yes, the movie was absolutely horrible, and I am sad about that because the stuff that happens later is SO GOOD. But I really could not put these books down.
6. The Twelve Kingdoms series by Fuyumi Ono. Forever so much fricken love.
7. Farscape: House of Cards by Keith R.A. DeCandido. And no, I'm not just recommending this because my friend wrote it. It really is super awesomely good!
8. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. Another that I could not put down.
9. Stardust by Neil Gaiman. My favorite of his books.
10. When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. This was the book that came before the Maximum Ride series.
9 Movies I Straight-Up Love:
1. The Princess Bride. Hands down forever, 2. Galaxy Quest, 3. The directors cut of Dances with Wolves, 4. Pitch Perfect, 5. The Expendables, 6. Empire Records, 7. Strictly Ballroom, 8. Avengers, 9. Lilo and Stitch

31 years on the planet, and I've still never sat down and watched The Princess Bride. I seriously need to do that!

Zoe is soooo pretty. And her twins are so adorbs! Hugh Jackman is 1000% WIN. He just seems like the absolute happiest, humblest, and friendliest celeb on the planet!

I had no idea you were an M5 fan! I haven't followed their music much besides what's played on the radio, but I absolutely loved them back in college when they first came out. Sunday Morning is still the best song to drive along to on a calm and relaxing day. SIA IS INCREDIBLE.

Your fave foods are making me drool. Mac n cheese is legit one of the greatest foods to ever exist. Also, DYING over here cuz I was hoping somewhere in the back of my mind that someone would say tampons or pads for that purse question. THANK YOU!

And hey, we want the same superpower. We could visit each other with the blink of an eye! And yes, that is what the hell I was missing: a TV question! I knew there was something, but for some reason, I just couldn't think of it last night. FAIL.

So many jokes you're missing with not having seen the Princess Bride. SO MANY.

Zoe is so gorgeous. Fell in love with her in Center Stage. Love that movie!
Hugh Jackman is perfection.

There's this pizza place two blocks from here that makes macaroni and cheese pizza and it's just... all it's missing is grilled cheese and it's ALL MY FAVORITES TOGETHER! mmmmm grilled cheeeseee.

I have a lot more than 2 things in my purse, of course. I have my phone, wallet, a reusable bag that squishes into a rose thing. Pens, gas pills, a traveler's prayer thing on a dragon. chapstick, a thumb drive, ibuprofen, screen cleaner thing, a case with my business cards, oh, there are TWO thumb drives in here. a bunch of change... receipts for yarn... *cough*

Seriously, I would go to ALL THE PLACES, if I could teleport. and none of that "You can't go there if you hadn't already been there" thing. I'd land in safe places where I wouldn't die and no one would get hurt.

I watch a lot of TV. SO much TV. Finally caught up on Quantico last night. Next up is The Blacklist.

I know. It's like a classic quote jokefest the entire time. I've heard so many just from watching it mentioned on TV or on internet message boards. I fail at life. I'm sorry.

That's right! She used to be a ballerina, right? That's pretty cool. I find it hilarious that she stopped cuz she didn't wanna be mediocre at it. It was either be the best, or try something else. And now she's in Star Trek movies, so YAY for you and Tash and Maidel and alllll of my beloved jjverse Trekkies!

STOP THE PRESSES. MAC N CHEESE PIZZA?! WHAAAAAAAAAAT?????????? MY LIFE NEEDS THAT SO MUCH. WHY DID YOU TELL ME ABOUT SOMETHING I CAN'T HAVE? WHYYYYYYYYYY???????????

Oh, wow. You could live outta your purse and maybe run an empire from it, too. I bow down. BTW, go back to the traveler's prayer on a dragon. What does that look like?! That is the coolest phrase I've heard so far this year.

YES. None of that "you picture the very specific location where you wanna go." It'd be more like "Fiji sounds cool, and I need a break, so I'mma hop over there even though I don't know anything about Fiji."

Quantico looks GOOD, dude. So dramatic from the very first ep. I'm just all kindsa lazy so I never watch TV anymore. I did marathon The People vs. OJ Simpson with my sis last weekend though, and I effing LOVED IT.

That dragon is so cute! May I ask what the prayer says?

When I have free time, I usually wanna read or make icons. At this point, there are so many shows I wanna try that I wouldn't even know where to start so I'd be paralyzed anyway. I only watch Game of Thrones, so 10 eps a year. :P

Sure, it's the Tefilat H'derech, Prayer for a Safe Journey, aaand according to the internets, this is the translation.

May it be Your will, G‑d, our G‑d and the G‑d of our fathers, that You should lead us in peace and direct our steps in peace, and guide us in peace, and support us in peace, and cause us to reach our destination in life, joy, and peace (If one intends to return immediately, one adds: and return us in peace). Save us from every enemy and ambush, from robbers and wild beasts on the trip, and from all kinds of punishments that rage and come to the world. May You confer blessing upon the work of our hands and grant me grace, kindness, and mercy in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us, and bestow upon us abundant kindness and hearken to the voice of our prayer, for You hear the prayers of all. Blessed are You G‑d, who hearkens to prayer.

Oh man, that prayer is so specific with the "robbers and wild beasts" and ambush parts! The rest of it sounds like things people should hope for and try to give to others, in general. I think we all could use more grace and kindness everyday and in everything we do, no matter who or what we each believe in. Very lovely prayer!

Well, we have a lot of deer here. So I suppose the wild beasts is apropos! LOL. I figure between that and the dragon, all those pesky robbers and deer will leave me be!!

My comment has been marked as spam. Apparently LJ hates prayers... :(

Yeah, LJ is just being idiotic today. Someone else's comments keep coming up as suspicious here, too. So ridiculous and random.

How on earth did I not remember The Princess Bride to put on my thingy? It's just one of the most amazing movies of all time! So quotable. So many jokes... I now need a Princess Bride icons and I have none.

Also I totally should have put Mr. Kiss and Tell on my list. Because Veronica Mars. Just my favorite hero of all time.

And I feel bad that I still haven't gotten around to reading Stardust because I love Neil Gaiman's writing.

The Princess Bride is just my goto answer for everything. Seriously, haha.

Veronica Mars is serious perfection and I need more!!

Stardust is one of those things that I can read/watch a thousand times and just fall more and more in love with it each time. That, and you know, Charlie Cox. *cough*

Oh wow I might just have not been 'out' so much but this is seriously the first time I've seen someone else talk about Tortall. I loved them as a kid! So much. I love fantasy in general, so. I started with Song of the Lioness and I regret to say I haven't read the other series she's done, but that was seriously amazing and I think also very good reading for that time of my life (uh...when I was an adolescent) as Alanna, seriously damn amazing yo. When will they ever get around to adapting this thing?

And ooh you travel a lot! For work or leisure?

Haha. The Tortall books are my best friend's FAVORITE and she's been trying to get me to read them FOREVER. I flew through the Beka books, the Alanna books, and the Daine books. Kel's next. But I took a break to read the 6th Outlander book.

I would LOVE for them to adapt those books! Especially the Daine ones. I loved those!!

Part for work. But that's a very small part. It's so easy having friends all over the world, I don't have to pay for hotels! I definitely would NOT have been able to afford to go to Iceland 3 times if I didn't have a friend living there. Leaving in a week to go to Kansas City and I don't need a hotel there either. (Ironically, am meeting up with my Icelander friend there, haha)

I love going anywhere, no matter how close or far.

Haha, nice! I remember really wanting to read Beka Cooper when I heard about it! Die hard Alanna/George shipper. I mean, yeah, they end up together, but even in the middle of the books and it was Jon and Alanna, I mean yeah sure I'm happy for her but aww George, bless him. He's the best. I want to reread it now hahah.

Wow, so cool! I travel when I can but that's also not as often as I'd like! Cost, work leaves/time off, that sort of thing. And I only "took" to traveling fairly recently so there is so much I haven't seen yet, tsk. Iceland, I'm jealous! That's on my list but it will be a while yet before I am able to get back to Europe.
