093: i'm not your hero / but that doesn't mean / we're not one and the same

Apr 15, 2013 04:55

It's been two whole months since I posted any icons so I'm quite overdue. I honestly hadn't even thought I'd make anything in April, but the latest round at inspired20in20 just captivated my mind and so did a peek at my old Megan Fox image folder! This month's theme was "Masquerade," and the idea was to obscure the subject in every icon through heavy texture use ( Read more... )

OHMYGOD KIM. Holy fuck. HOW is it that everytime I think you can't possibly get any more perfect, you go and do just that??

Seriously there are no words for how much I ADORE this post. Everything here is just so creative, amazing and stunning. I was really intrigued by this insp20in20 challenge, but it's probably the most difficult and technical challenge that comm has had this far and I wasn't sure if the results would be more weird or cool. Buuuut if there's one person who embraces weird and makes it cool every freaking time, it is most definitely you! Seriously this was the perfect challenge for you. All the creative ways you hid the subjects, I CAN'T EVEN COMPREHEND ALL THE WIN IN THIS POST ok.

Angle is classic you in that there's the deep, unusual monochrome, and there are the triangles. You nail that style everytime, and while it's a highly distinctive look, every piece still looks different. In this one for example I love how the triangle stuff is so bright compared to everything else, so that's where my eye goes first. And I ( ... )

Blown away as always by your effusive feedback, my friend. With your busy schedule, I'll never get how you find the time to leave such thoughtful comments all over the place, but I know it picks up my day to hear from you, and I'm certain tons of other makers can say the exact same so THANK YOU! <3 ( ... )

aw, this is amazing to hear - my schedule definitely prevents me from commenting as much and as well as I'd like, so I'm forced to prioritize a bit. If I had my way, I'd have time to leave feedback to all icon posts that ever get posted! That being said, commenting and looking at gorgeous icon posts is a reward, not an obligation, sooo it's something I'm looking forward when I'm doing boring groupwork or something. Glad it's appreciated! And you'd be the last to know anyway even if i had almost no time for commenting at all, cause you'd still make that priority list :p ♥

also shutup nobody in their right mind would find spectrum a 'huge, ugly mess' :D

Funny you mention priority lists cuz I recently began tracking all the comms you're part of so that I could always see what you're up to even if I don't always have time to comment. All your stuff at themissingfaction is just WHOAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think "spectrum" is the kinda icon that appeals to many people, so I really do believe most would consider it ugly or just nonsensical.

Omg, really?? That's all sorts of awesome and super flattering to hear! :3

'nonsensical' is such a silly word to use about icons tbh. Idk if you remember or saw the A_I discussion about icons having a point waaaayyy back when I still went there, but I think that sort of affected me a long long time and stopped me from doing things I thought would be cool but would just be there for composition, without having a 'point' at all, so... 'nonsensical', if you will. You know, stuff like unreadable/cut-off text, random/weird texture elements, blocking, all kinds of stuff that I really like even though they don't teach me anything about the meaning of life :D

I'm so glad I'm pretty much over that now, haha, and particularly glad that you never seem to let stuff like that affect your creativity - sure, maybe spectrum would look nonsensical to someone, but who cares cause it's freaking gorgeous and visually interesting and just a work of art ♥

Oh, I totally recall that whole thread! When I say "nonsensical," I mean it in the sense that the elements in the icon don't look like they flow together or are thrown together haphazardly. Sometimes I look at an icon and can't grasp why one specific element is included, like it seems out of place with the rest of the piece. Like you, I don't think icons have to make sense in the strictest definition of the word, but I do want my work to look coherent and thoughtful. I'm glad you've let go of that restrictive idea that everything in your work has to be logical somehow. Your mind has been freed up and your creativity just keeps expanding!
