I know it's been a few months since I've posted, but laziness tends to trump everything else where I'm concerned. As always, please find it in your lovely hearts to forgive me! Now, I'd planned to present a multi-fandom entry for my return, but halfway through making my second and latest
20inspirations entry batch, I realized my alternate/variation-loving ass

I've been thinking of switching out #1 for #21, too, cuz I love the red and think it looks more like a real playing card. But then, it was inspired by the blue tones of the first inspiration vid, so I'll probably stick with my current entry.
#26 feels very empty to me without the text. I knew lots of people would prefer something textless, which is why I made it, but I love the depth that the text gives to the piece.
#3 was something I had to keep fooling with to draw out different colors, and I'm very glad you like the final result!
I'm sorta conflicted about #4 as well. I felt it was more complex than the other ones, so I made it my entry, but it doesn't feel complex enough to me, and I go back and forth on whether or not I like the text where it is. I love text obscuring a subject's face though. It's something I've really come to love. It just doesn't work particularly well in this instance.
#5 is the one icon I'm very "okay" about. Others seem to love it, but it doesn't feel cohesive to me. All the stuff you said about texture strokes? All credit goes to the texture. I did nothing but crop it from one of the inspiration images and slap it on the icon. Don't think I even had to mask or erase any of it.
I get so irritated looking at his yellow face in #6 cuz that wasn't the exact tone I wanted, but I got sick of trying to fix that piece. I might switch it out for the B/W version cuz there's no yellow to piss me off. I'm so thrilled that you like it that much though! That's awesome!
#7 looks so harsh and oversharpened to me. I wish I could have made it look more refined, but I honestly was tired of re-doing so many pieces.
#8 will probably get replaced by an alternate, like #39 or #41. I only chose it cuz it had a painted look to it, but I don't personally love it either.
#9 started out as #50, which was painful to make and still nowhere near satisfactory. I think that current one is a vast improvement, but not a big fave of mine. I'm happy that you at least like the coloring because that icon was just too much work without even a great result.
I actually like #10, too! As I've said in the post, I can't really blend well, so I tend to just go for different crops and stack them as blocks. If it weren't for that amazing texture, this thing would have been so boring. I'm really glad I found the perfect one to smudge up and use!
Getting those blue tones took some effort, but I'm very pleased with the final product!
I really love the various colorings I got for the #12 variations, but I chose that particular one as my entry cuz the others don't look remotely complex to me. #12 has so many colors blending together and a more watercolor feel to it that I think is more in keeping with the overall theme of the challenge.
I'm addicted to yellow (and now also to blue), so #13 brought my fave colors together. Hee! I love that you think it's precious!
#14 has a colored texture that also involved text. I'm sure I could have painted over the text or typed over it, but I like how stark the black is against the dark red. People don't make enough circle icons. I love those things! Very glad it hits a certain mood to you. I wanted it to be brooding and a little melancholy.
#63 is, indeed, an alternate for #15. You and Lindsay have me rethinking if I should go for the simpler piece now. Hmmm...
