069: i woke up one morning / all my fingers rotting

I know it's been a few months since I've posted, but laziness tends to trump everything else where I'm concerned. As always, please find it in your lovely hearts to forgive me! Now, I'd planned to present a multi-fandom entry for my return, but halfway through making my second and latest 20inspirations entry batch, I realized my alternate/variation-loving ass

there are two things about this post that stand out to me:
- the shapes! it's not just smaller squares in squares, it's round shapes and siwlry shapes, symbols, mosaics - so much variety that really catches the eye. it also made me really look at each icon individually.
- the range of colours you worked with. looking at all those alternates, too, I think you didn't leave out a single colour in the spectrum xD and you used them in many different ways, too. like, I really admire those "chrome" icons (#1, #4 & #18).

Also, there are no awesome blends or blocking effects here
UHM. HAVE YOU SEEN #3, #5, #19 AND #20?!

my absolute favourites would be:
#2 - love the green tones in here (that was obvious), but also how the text adds so much to this icon. not for what the text says, but the shapes of the letters and the colour.
#3/5 - very unique shades of blues and reds in both of these! also, I find the blocking technique very well executed here!
#6 - I just admire how daring you were with the colours here. the background looks amazing.
#15 - I really like the shape of the pverall icon, it's so unusual, and that his face is kinda obscured adds so much mystery to the icon.
#17 - ah, the pale colours ♥ so refreshing to the eye.
#18 - THIS ONE GETS FIRST PLACE IN MY BOOK. I just love looking at it, I can't even describe what the hell it is. it's just the combination of everything that is going on in there. and god, that pastel colour. unf.

definitely worth all the trouble you went through (: aren't you glad you finished them? I know I was relieved as hell, lol!

ITA on 18! I don't even know what it is but it's soft and clean with that twist of interest in the text and texture.

It must be one of those things where my brain automatically reads it correctly cuz it knows what the phrases mean to say. I honestly didn't notice typos or any such thing.

I'm finally ready to read through your entire wonderful comment, Jana. Pardon me if I get teary or incoherent at any point in my reply. *hugs*

I feel I always struggle with getting interesting shapes into my work, so it's immensely gratifying to hear you like what I achieved in this batch!

Thank you so much for acknowledging the diverse colors in this post. It makes me so happy to finally step away from all the yellow I was doing. I mean there's still plenty of it, but it's not the ONLY color to be found, which is what I felt was happening in so many previous posts.

I guess when I think of blocking, I usually envision prettybutt's stuff, which is impossible for me to do. My blocks are very simplistic, IMO. Still, it's so encouraging to know you enjoy those pieces!

I honestly have no clue what the text in #2 says either. It's a texture (hee!), and I never bother reading what it says. As you mentioned, I like what it does for an image!

I've looked at #5 a million times, and it doesn't ever really make sense to me other than that I use Color Balance to match his face to the left side of the texture. My flist seemed to like it so much that I didn't bother re-doing it though. :P

#6 already looked complicated cuz of the original background, and then I cropped one of the inspiration photos and used it as a texture. Don't love it, but again, my flist did, so I kept it the same.

YES for #15! You got exactly what I was hoping to convey, which is mystery!

I really like that #17 is subtle, which isn't something I'm known for.

And YAYYYYYYYYYYYY! #18 is one of the last things I made, and I was so uncertain about the text, which I actually did mostly by myself (except for the "&" texture).

So glad to have this done, and now, I feel my muse is totally back, which is awesome! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THE DETAILED FEEDBACK, JANA. IT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME! <3333333

your yellow is my green, I'm afraid! I'll have to step away from that colour one of these days, but I'm already noticing how hard it is, so I feel you! and extra kudos for successfully stepping away from yellow :D

Once my icon battle reveal is posted, I can start putting my multifandom one together. It'll include all my battle stuff and lots of icontest entries that I have been too lazy to put up before. Story of my life.
