Angel and I had driven from Seaside to Los Angeles, once again. He wasn’t the world’s greatest company because first of all, the sun was out and he was covered in a blanket, even though the Pathfinder has tinted windows, and secondly, because, annoyingly, he’s all worried about Buffy being in danger at the hands of an evil, strong and magic-using vampire named Xavier, even though he doesn’t know based on my vision if that’s one-hundred percent factual.
Oh yeah, and then he’s worried about the very reason that we are going to Los Angeles…Connor. He’s probably also thinking, like me, about Fred, Wesley, Gunn and Lorne, too, and I think that my man needed some good old lovin’.
Except, yeah, there’s always something, and this something involves getting into the sewer system, finding a demon or some demons, who know where this Vail lives, and then going to him and trying to convince him out of the kindness of his heart to do something to make Connor’s homicidal and suicidal tendencies, that he definitely has, currently, to go away.
The odds of that happening are slim to none and the odds of finding a demon willing to talk before its evil tendencies force Angel to kill it are also on the side of nearly nil. But, that wasn’t what worried me. What worried me was that when we found this Vail, he would be willing to help Connor, with a price. The price is what bothered me because I knew that Angel would do almost anything for Connor. He had already agreed to take over Wolfram and Hart, which led to the original spell…and there was no telling what this guy might ask for in return.
Still, first, we had to find the asshole, which led us to like the least favorite place that any normal girl wanted to go…the sewers. We entered the sewers through the Hyperion after getting out of the car. Angel, middle of the day, blanket clad, rushed towards the door and kicked it in and I was left to explain to a couple of passers-by that he has a really bad sunburn. I left that there for the passers-by to digest and followed and now, yeah, the smell leaves something to be desired, but it does remind me of the old times, when everyone was alive and when things were dangerous, but altogether not so bad.
Once in the sewer, Angel headed east, though for a few minutes we saw and heard nothing and of course, this made his tension grow and didn’t exactly soothe me because the further that Angel’s rope got stretched, the more that he would compromise when it came to this meeting with this Vail warlock guy, if that meeting ever actually occurs.
Finally, we heard some banging coming from a little room inside of the sewer systems. It is amazing how many little rooms there are down here. Gunn used to use one, bless his soul, and I find it hard to believe that the city planners or whatever, built all of these rooms…because why would they need them?
Like old times, Angel kicked open the door and though I had the power to glow and had visions and could fight now, also like old times, I stuck close to him, not knowing what was on the other side of the door. When we got inside, there were two harmless looking, kinda plump demons fixing a valve or something. They looked at us with fear, and Angel relaxed.
