Connor had chosen to stay with faith instead of going with us to try to find the warlock who could unlock his memories. It stunned me when he decided to go with Faith to Cleveland, so I knew that it not only shocked, but hurt Angel and as he drove in a stolen BMW, I wished that there was something that I could offer him in the way of solace. That rejection buried him inside of remorse over sending Connor away in the first place, and when added to the helplessness of the situation, Wesley, Gunn, Fred and Lorne all killed, I knew that he wanted to sit and brood in a corner on an epic level, but we couldn't.
We had assured Connor that the life that he thought that he knew wasn't real and though he would always remember, now, those who weren't his real Family members being killed, now, more then ever, while he was feeling such despair, we needed to find the way to give him his memories back. If we couldn't, then it would look more and more to Connor, like we were lying to him, but I couldn't say that to Angel, not right now, because as we closed in on Los Angeles, that would only make him feel worse, and I didn't want him to feel any worse. There was way way too much of that already going around.
I leaned over and put my lips on his neck. "It's all going to work out for the best, Angel. We'll find out who this warlock guy is, intimidate at Wolfram and Hart to do so, and then we'll make the warlock give the memories back and if he doesn't, well intimidate him too. There's nothing that's going to stop you from getting Connor's memories back right now and I'll be right there beside you."
He didn't seem to respond to my kisses, so I slid my left hand down to his crotch and felt him immediately harden as I touched him. I wasn't going to do anything to him right now. The mood wasn't right...well, not more then I was already doing, but I wanted him to feel like he would always have me and that together, we would and could accomplish anything that we needed to.
Still, he only gave me a somber look as I touched him. We entered Los Angeles after three hours of driving. We were almost to the evil empire. "Angel, I don't know why Connor didn't want to come with us, but it's okay. Faith would have been alone if he didn't go with her and maybe he realizes that he might get his memories back and be mad at you. This might just be for the best, big guy."
