We ended up evacuating since our area called it mandatory but the county we live in is so big I think we might be alright. I know my mother who was driving the whole time was tempted to go back hom a few times. We spent 18 hours driving on a way that normally takes an hour maybe an hour and half with moderate traffic or two even. We're in Dallas now, the dad who was suppose to go to Dallas for work couldn't make it there so he pulled over and rested which was good for us cause we broke down in Conroe. By that point, I wasn't even upset over it. It's a miracle we made it out all that gridlock and I'm still semi-sane, I wanted to shoot myself. It was so horrible. I think because of Hurricane Katrina they played the fear card too much and told everyone to get out, Houston's too big, there's too much people and barely any fuel and you can't really stop along the way. No one really even pointed out that New Orleans is built very differently. The parts that were in serious risk should be evacuated but they hardly gave any advice if what you were saying. I think the evacuation went bad, in their haste to get everyone out they didn't seem to think about fuel or traffic congestion or even putting shelters up in the city. I saw so many people stranded, families lying on top of their car or on a blanket on the highway. When it rains what are they suppose to do? People have already died just trying to get out. It's so awful.
We're going back on Monday so hopefully the house will be fine. I've slept maybe five hours these past two days and there is a room reserved so hopefully we'll get it. I was suppose to go to San Antonio two weeks ago but we ended up staying because of the New Orleans evacuess.
