so my dreads are nearly done. after 4 days of dreading my white boy hair, they are now nearing completion and i have a few thoughts to share:
1) OUCH! dreads are one of the most painful experiences i have ever experienced thus far. it is seriously like scalp torture when your head is being back combed. every part of dreading has its own unique brand of pain. first there is the sectioning and putting tight elastics around groupings of hair. then there is the back combing, which can take upwards of half an hour to an hour to do one dread, and that feels like a sewing machine weaving into your scalp, and then there is the waxing and rolling of the dread whichtwists the hair and your scalp with it. lets just say it is not pleasant.
2) the entire process has taken, no joking, from sunday until a bit of tommorow to complete my full head. and thats not because it was not knowing how to do it. it takes so fucking long because my hair is fine, and caucasiany smooth, and to get really tight dreads (like we aimed for), you have to spend so much time on one lock. so if you equate half an hour to an hour for just 1 out of 30 dreads, then you can see the time needed to dedicate to it.
many thanks to everyone who helped. jocelyn and drew for taking so much time out of their lives to help complete them and go along for the ride. and vanessa for providing her house, and doing a lot of work on the dreads as well. i appreciate it more then you all know!
