Oh, wow. There’s something gut-wrenchingly deep about this- that there’s so much more below the surface of Diana that only shows in ways the people who don’t know can’t possibly understand, and the people who do know still don’t understand. That Geno’s the only one who gets it, that he knows how to use it- that’s so them. And of course she thinks they’re the good guys. No one ever thinks they’re the bad guys. (Meta thought- does that shift in perception relate to any shifts in your perception regarding Sue, Diana, and Huskies in general?)

It’s mildly disturbing that we’re on the same wavelength with the wings. Damnit, now I have to find that notebook and get Kia finished.

I'm really glad you like it. I wrote some scribblings about this literally years ago when I wrote that little thing about Bill. (In fact, three sentences from that appear in this.) I enjoyed writing Bill as sympathetic, that was quite an experience. I mean, I always prefer to write characters from their own perspective when possible and as you say nobody thinks of herself as the villain. But the original impulse to write Diana in this universe came from how much I adore her now and how much I vilified this particular version of her in the past ( ... )

Bill is the most magnificent of bastards. Good thing the universe made him up for us; it’d be hard trucking if we had to come up with him on our own. Same with Geno, actually. They’re such fascinating characters sometimes it’s hard to remember that they’re real. (Sometimes I think Stringer is also fictional, but created by a less talented author who likes to pile on the angst.)

I’m interested in how you reconcile the more nuanced interpretation of Diana with the simpler one from the original fics and how much divergence there might be. I seem to recall Diana being obnoxious even from Ann’s POV.

Modern Huskies... adding those shades of gray would definitely help if you wanted to write Moore, given that she’s a born-again.

My interpretation of the content isn't half as important as the reader's experience of it, right?

Depends. Sometimes they feed off each other.
