Dear
femslash12 writer,
First of all, this is obviously a bit late, so if you already know what you want to write and are excited to get started, feel free to disregard entirely!
Um.
Compiling a list of things that I like is tricky, because it often feels as if I like a bit of everything! But I am told my taste sometimes runs dark. While I do enjoy good fluff, sad is not a turnoff for me. If that's where the bunny is leading you, feel free. Some of the pairings and people I am drawn to in fiction do sort of tend to work best with sad, angst, or at the very least awkward, so it's understandable.
Some of the other things I like are women who are strong (both emotionally and physically) and snarky, but sometimes also earnest -- even if that part is only on the inside. I like AUs that take place nowhere in canon but with characters we recognize. Pirates, cowboys, and space ships are all awesome! Super heroes, sometimes high school, or hey, super heroes in high school. If there's something slightly out there that you really want to do with these gals, feel free.
I also like canon! I swear. I even enjoy some really good gen with longing sort of humming underneath everything. Like I said, I can do sad. But since my list spans a pretty huge variety of taste -- all good, mind, and wherever we align with each other I bet is especially awesome -- I'll save more specific stuff for a per fandom basis below.
Things I generally dislike: most stories told in the first person, male character bashing (though good-natured ribbing from characters within the story is obviously okay), and non-con.
More specific thoughts on the actual fantoms under a cut, because wordy:
1. Once Upon a Time: Okay, first of all, I really am sorry for picking something so new when the reason this is one of the main listed fantoms is obviously Swan Queen, but I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT AURORA AND MULAN. Sarah Bolger being cast is the entire reason why I sat down and gave this show a shot, but her having someone she already butts heads with a bit while still desperately needing them was such an unexpected and amazing bonus. If you want to include Emma/Regina in the background, absolutely, feel free. And obviously you can deviate from wherever the season sends these two if necessary, since that's still ongoing, but I am particularly drawn to the idea of them falling for each other now that they've both lost Philip and have to depend on each other for so much more. (Emotionally, perhaps for safety. Who knows how the politics of this new village they're all hiding in will work, so maybe Mulan will also need Aurora to vouch for her at times. It could be fun!)
2. DC Comics: I am a Stephanie Brown fangirl who misses her presence in the comics very much. I like Steph when she's cracking-wise, kicking ass, and butting heads with Babs. (I love her interactions with Babs and would appreciate any and all of it. I just tend to see their relationship as more big sister/little sister, so I didn't list it as a pairing. But as much Babs as you like to write is very welcome!) I love the dynamic between Stephanie and Cass because they are a balance for each other. Stephanie is like a beam of almost excessively happy sunlight lighting up those around her, but I think Cass actually knows the other side of her that's still a bit of a hurt and angry little girl, but she's too good of a friend to ever say so. That's why they work.
And Stephanie and Kara is just good fun. They could beat up bad guys and then do makeovers. I dunno. Kisses on rooftops sound awesome, whatever the occasion!
3. The Good Wife: I only started watching this show recently, but Kalinda's love for Alicia is basically breath-taking, awe inspiring, and worthy of words. It can be unrequited, as long as it's prominent. But the looks! And the yearning. And if hands touch a little, oh my god how great would that be? I mean if you can come up with a good reason for them to actually get together, feel free, but this is definitely one instance where longing is acceptable.
And now this is where shit gets a little more weird.
1. Persona 4: I really, really love the world of Persona 4. Even if we weren't matched on this one, buddy, if you share my taste at all I hope you consider checking out at least the anime. (There's a video game on PS2 with a remake soon to be on Vita, an anime, and actually the
Giant Bomb endurance run where they play through the whole original PS2 game is a pretty great means of experiencing it too.)
But okay, inappropriate pimping aside: Chie and Yukiko are absolutely in love with each other. (Even the 30-something heterosexual dudes not remotely into fandom on GB pick up on it!) I will accept anything that takes that as canon. Actual secret girlfriends with hand-holding, kissing, and secret sex at the inn? Awesome! Chie and Yukiko's awesome love as younger kids including that adorable dog they share? Amazing! Grown up them with Yukiko having actually taken over the family inn and sharing it with HER WIFE CHIE OH MY GOD? Yeah, that could be cool too. I'm basically enthusiastic about anything you'd be enthusiastic about that features these two terrific ladies being terrific to each other. I'd also be cool with some angst and insecurity on either's part, though some happy somewhere for them would be nice. Some people deserve a happy ending, you know?
2. Sherlock BBC/Marvel Avengers movieverse: From the moment I saw the new season of Sherlock, I was absolutely convinced that Irene Adler and Natasha Romanoff together would basically be the greatest, most logical thing ever. I mean, think about it! Irene has all those secrets -- some of them important, government secrets -- and that list of potentially embarrassed clients who would pay to have her brought down. She's a total top, but she gets off on a challenge. She and Natasha exchanging barbs (and maybe blows) on their way to find a bed would be amazing. (And yeah, this is another one where they obviously don't have to really end up in bed together if the story doesn't serve it. Go with your gut! Feed the fic, however it most makes sense, and I'm sure I'll love it.)
3. The Vampire Diaries: I should have probably put this higher up the list, because the idea of teenage vampire femslash makes me want to capslock with just random sounds of happiness and anticipation for the new season this week. If it weren't COMPLETELY obvious, I love Caroline. She is my favorite thing on this show and the reason it became something I love SO MUCH it's almost a little embarrassing actually. And don't get me wrong, I love Bonnie too, but for this I really just would love vampire sexy times. (I'm truly sorry, Bonnie! I know the show doesn't give you enough to do as it is.)
I love the idea of Caroline and Elena having some unspoken, mostly unrequited thing building up all through childhood, and now that they're both vampires whose feelings are heightened and who experience everything larger than life, they can't help themselves any longer. I also love the idea of Katherine manipulating and teasing at that. I imagine her toying with both of them, just picking at emotional wounds until they bleed. But as much as she likes using Elena as her catharsis, I think Katherine has a bit of a soft side too. It's teeny tiny, but it's cool if it's there in the fic.
She and Caroline make sense to me as almost enemies who can learn from each other. Katherine can try to teach Caroline about control, and loyal (almost to a fault) Caroline has a lot that she could teach Katherine. (Also that scene where Katherine woke Caroline up, sat on her bed making sexy eyes, and Caroline had to do that breathing thing she does to calm down that USUALLY involves when she's aroused or generally around someone she really wants to bite and fuck? Yeahhh.)
Pretty similar feelings for Caroline and Rebekah, just with them as more mirror images of each other who are still a little more broken than Katherine -- who pieced herself back together quite well -- and more inclined to hatred, probably. But come on, their hate sex would be AMAZING.
Oh and I should probably mention that I hate Klaus, so no Klaroline PLEASE.
As usual, feel free to poke through the journal,
my AO3 account, or
my way more active tumblr. Actually, the tumblr is where a lot of my feelings on a lot of these fandoms are, so it might be helpful? (I'm sorry that I'm an asshole who tags all my Vampire Diaries stuff
"tvd sounds like a venereal disease" instead of anything normal. At least I have a normal one
for Caroline?)
Or like I said, feel free to ignore and just write something that makes you happy! I'll probably be happy as long as it has one of my chosen pairings. :)
Keep on being awesome, you obviously have good taste!
