that's right, yesterday, i'm sitting in my living room, at around 2:30 in the afternoon, lounging in my pj's on my day off watching beverly hills cop III on usa when the sirens suddenly go off. my world totally stopped for a split second as i tried to figure out why they were going off. i ask kevin and our friend scott why they're going off and kevin just shrugs and scott says "they're just probably testing them...", my response/reply "no they're not, they only test on mondays around noon." okay, the part i've left out, it's been windy as fuck since the day before and was, at the moment the sirens sounded storming, i mean an honest to god, torrential downpour with lightning and thunder, storm. so, i quickly turn it to the weather channel only to discover that we'd been under a tornado warning for some time (for those that don't know what that means, it means if you've got cover, take it). i instantly go into slight panic/survival mode. i run to my room and change, figuring that if anything happens i'd rather be in jeans, a shirt, a sweater and socks and shoes. i then mobilize kevin into taking our fish and the radio downstairs into the basement as i glue myself to the t.v. and frantically try to call liz who's at work. well, no avail contacting liz so i call my mom and let her know and assure her that we have a basement. and by this time, the sirens have sounded again. well, come to find out later, 2 tornadoes actually touched down within 10 miles of our house, and even less than that from where liz was at work. liz finally calls us to tell us she's okay and they're deciding whether to let people go home. happily to say, we passed through unscathed with nothing more than a ruffled nono, anxious kevin and a bemused scott to show for it. well, once everything passes, it's back to trying to figure out what the weather's doing with liz's little brother kenny's flight home, seeing as how someone had to drive from here to kansas city, mo to pick him up. his originally scheduled arrival time was 8pm, he actually landed, with delays at DFW and KCI, at 11:30pm. kevin, scott and kenny finally get home around 2:30am with no weather horror stories.
so, this morning, i wake up at 6:30am to get ready for work and as i'm putting my shoes on to go warm my truck up, it's just light enough outside for me to see the front yard and the snow that has accumulated there. i finish lacing up my shoes and go wake kevin and liz up to see and then head out to warm up my truck. well, pretty as it was, it made for an interesting drive home at around 5:30 tonight when the roads had been snowed on and driven on all day and were icy and slushy by this point. i'm definitely going to be looking into getting me a truck that has front-wheel drive, if that exists.
anywho, so that's my interesting last 24 hours and then some.
