Anyone good at this?  Like really good?  I've been stumped for months on my mom's maternal grandmother, my namesake.

I can not confirm her maiden name or her arrival to the U.S.  Her sister arrived from Prussia (Germany) a couple years ahead of her, but was already married and it's her married name on the books.

My great-grandmother was Minnie Kawalenski.  Or... something like that.  Of her 5 children with 2 husbands, their death certificates list their "Mother's maiden name" spelled differently.

Her Children with __?__ Bremer.  First name presumably Carl.  Died in flu epidemic in 1918.
  • Carl Bremer, born jul 22 1917, died nov 9 1974, s.s. 567-01-8942, never married that I can find, mother's maiden name not listed.  Other family trees list mother's maiden name as Brojefski and Kawalevski.
  • Frieda Bremer, born Apr 26 1915, died Jan 4 1986, s.s. 550-54-8476, married Weldon Wirth, mother's maiden name listed as Kavalevski.
  • Helena Bremer, born Jan 11 1914, died Sep 11 1982, s.s. 565-10-1330, married Charles Prentice, mother's maiden name listed as Kawalenski.
Her children with Otto Alexander McFarlane
  • Mabel McFarlane, born Jan 12 1924, died jun 16 2002, s.s. 564-22-3708, married Gene Hamel, mother's maiden name not listed.
  • Mildred McFarlane (my grandmother), born nov 15 1922, died mar 17 1984, s.s. 570-94-5944, married Griggs Tillotson, mother's maiden name listed as Kavalansky.
Minnie could also be changed from Minna or Wilhelmina - both seem common from Germany.  I can find no record of her arrival circa 1912.  I can find no evidence of her marriage to either husband.  I can find no information on her first husband's death circa 1918.  I cannot find her naturalization papers.  I can find no birth records of her children, only death listings.  I have tried ever imaginable spelling of her maiden name.

She would have arrived after the 1910 census.  By the time she shows up on the 1920 census (last name Bremer) she's widowed with 3 kids.   She lived in northern California - mostly around Sacramento.

All this, what I have so far, is on Ancestry.com - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/3176313/person/-1764618250
