I've been so excited I forgot to post my news first thing this morning after I confirmed with my new Landlords that I will be taking on the little cottage in the woods which will soon become the Sew Curvy/MarmaladeKiss studio!
Not many pics right now because obviously the place is still occupied, but basically it's a 2 up 2 down cottage on an Estate. The Manor house of the estate is now a posh hotel (which holds posh wedding fayres), there is a sawmill to manage the woodland, and next to the sawmill is a little complex of what used to be barns, stables and workers cottages. So I have a tiny workers cottage with three rooms all to myself!
The other units, variously cottages, converted barns and converted stables, are used by other artisans and small businesses. Right next door I have an artist with his own gallery and shop - he's a friend of mine and bought this place to my attention 2 years ago - and next door on the other side I have the communal gallery which is where the artists communally display their works. There is a small amount of random foot fall, and other people who come to see the artists etc often find much more than they bargained for in the way of other arts and crafts ..
The current tenant is moving out at the end of the month - she is an exclusive curtain maker, so has looked after the space well from a textile'y point of view - it's all ready to go! Just needs a jolly good clean and a lick of paint.
So.. a couple of pics .. Here's the outside at the front which you've probably seen on FB! ... I'm standing in a little garden with a table and chairs
Here is the big room upstairs one way ...
and the other way. see that table? It's HUGE!!!
And here's the carpark .. It' looks very rural and it is, but there's a B&B about 5 mins walk away AND it's on a bus route! It's all so perfect .. I really don't think it could be more perfect ..
It's a very central location, despite being gloriously idyllic, so should be easy for non-local people to get here .. It really couldn't be any more perfect. I am so happy too because I love holding workshops but had been really struggling trying to find a suitable venue in a good location, at the right price with the right facilities etc., etc., But more than that, I have been coveting this unit for 2 years! I never thought it would become available, and when the current tenant gave notice on it 6 months ago, I didn't think I would be able to afford the rent, so left it ... It was only because of other happenings and discussions with friends and subsequent discussions with my husband, that I thought - Yes .. I need to move Sew Curvy out of home so that I can grow and expand - My husband was behind the idea 100% so in trepidation, I called the landlords of this place and HURRAY! the cottage was still available! It's as if it and everything else were waiting for me to get my bottom into gear and take this leap of faith!
So! Now I need a name .. my friend says not "House of Marmalade" (as per my blog) as it sounds like French and Saunders "House of Idiot" .. LOL I thought "Sew Curvy Studio" ... but as it's a 'multi' business (workshops/shop/bespoke), I think a simple "corseteiere" sign with both business web addresses and a phone number is best ... Any ideas?
I'll be posting progress along the way, and my move in date is 10 March. I am so excited I can't concentrate on much else today!
