Tuesday Movie (#10): Jupiter Ascending 3D

Mar 24, 2015 21:15

I hadn't wanted to see this in 3D, but couldn't get to the 10am weekday (regardless of location) and this was a last chance to see. Even better when I booked online the system let me use the Cinebuzz points for a standard movie for a 3D! Not sure if that's an intentional benefit for VIP members (I see enough movies per year for special offers etc) or not, but I figured that instead of paying the higher 3D price, that I'd use my points instead.  Often I save my points to see something I'm not sure I'll enjoy so at least it doesn't cost me cold hard cash.

I'm amazed that my brain coped with the 3D right to the end - though perhaps cos I was sitting in the (centre of the) very back row of a long narrower cinema.  For once I saw what most people get in 3D, instead of a slightly blurry, headache from eyestrain inducing thing.

I figured to give Jupiter Ascending it's best chance (given peoples reactions have been varied) I'd best see it on the big screen, and not wait for a DVD to appear at my local library.

I enjoyed it more than some - though Eddie Redmayne's characterization of Balem was hilariously bad.  In fact there was enough campishness overall for me to enjoy it.

Hadn't realised Sean Bean was in it, and I was more than happy to see Douglas Booth again (plays Balem's brother Titus) after his part in Gillian Anderson's Great Expecations.  We'll see him again as Mr Bingley in P&P&Zombies.

Some great costumes and gadgets - nice to see a female lead in a sci fi film too.
