I'm suprised that I didn't feel like the poor relation at the ball, due to my wearing a blinged up old day dress when there was so much finery in attendance, but I didn't.
We were earlyish (ie not fashionably late) to the ball but that gave us plenty of time to admire the gowns & gents as they arrived. I hid from the news camera that was filming for the ABC (not the american ABC but the aussie publicly funded ABC), and although some of my friends appeared briefly, there's only a glimpse of a bit of my dress. Being short helps sometimes :) I added a large blingly brooch to the front of my dress, but due to it's weight i had to pin it through to my stays. It cost AUD$15 at Equip or Diva. I'd found some pinky silk georgette in my stash, a 2m length that was barely enough for a turban, but I made it work. A brooch would have helped on the side, but it would need to be light or the whole thing would have toppled. I needed long curls to pin in the gap and hang out. That's in quite a few fashion plates of the time.
Thanks to my fight with the footpath 3 weeks earlier, I still can't wear the 99% of my shoes. I can wear jandals/thongs/flip flops, and 2 pairs of cute canvas ballet style flats that are frankly getting a little on the nose after being worn constantly at work. Plus 1 pair of shoes from the UK that have the perfect 1790s style in shape & heel but the upper isn't quite right. They're slightly too long (I'm a UK 5.5EEEE and these only come in full sizes in EEE width. I forgot to get half soles to fill out the front ... actually not so much forgot as walking to a place that sold them was too far. I went bare legged .. I'd have gone over if I was slipping around inside the shoes.
None of this you really care for, you just want pics, and more pics of the pretties complete with ankle p*rn.
OK, the more pics are behind a cut for the sake of f-list sanity!
and you can see why I was gutted at missing
poisonedkitty 's hairstyles part on the program.
Jo was inspired by Miss Bingley's ball gown - what a fantastic job she made of it. It was great to meet Alexa again, last year she did a fabulous Mary Bennet, complete with a book recovered as Dr Fordyce's "Sermons to Young Women". Did Mr Collins have a lucky escape or did Mary??
I remember the young lady on the left from last year. I love the ball gown she made - the binding on her sleve details is fabulously done, and that she's shy with strangers really reminds me of me when I was her age. Meg is great fun as she was last year ... I missed her program part in the morning due to my migraine :-(
but wait there's more ... what would Lydia and Kitty Bennet say ... someone snagged a soldier to dance with!
And let's not forget the shoe shot!
