Yeah, it will lay funny if you just cut a straight, rectangle strip. You'll want your strip of fur to mirror the curves in the capelet.

The fur needs to be cut either in the shape of the edge of the cape or on the bias (at an angle across the grain). It's usually easier to cut it to match the shape. When it's cut in a straight line with the grain, it doesn't stretch or lay properly against the fabric.

You're going to want to cut a strip of fur that's the same shape as the edge of the capelet. If you just sew a straight piece on, it won't lay nicely. If you want it to lay flat, the edge of the fur that gets sewn to the caplet needs to match the curve of the hem of the capelet
