So a while back, I asked the denizens of We Sew Loli to help me with getting an A-line shape out of a rectangle skirt. I finally completed the silly thing, and I wanted to thank you all for your help. The pleating worked like a charm!
Project Title: Scottie A-line
Short Project Description: OP with vintage salvaged fabric
Project Started: Mid-June-ish, 6/18? 6/19?
Project Completed: 7:30 am, 6/26.
Did you discover something you would like to share? My overcast foot is amazing, and I have named mine 'Darling'. Overcasting every single edge has its rewards, but most of the construction time was nothing but overcasting. It gets so tedious after a while, and it just chews through all of my thread stash. I'm thrilled with how it looks though, so thread-consuming or not, it's now a mainstay in my skill tool box.
ALSO. SERIOUSLY, FLAT IRONS ARE GREAT FOR SEAMS. Yes, I mean the ones used to straighten hair. I have a big 2 inch wide straightener that is amazing for pressing seams open and getting into tight corners. It makes pressing skirt hems really, REALLY easy.
How happy are you with the result? 90%. While the bodice is lined, it's still a bit messy on the inside, and I still haven't figured out a way to bridge that lining gap between sleeve and shoulder opening. Because I finished all the lining edges, it won't fray, but it's still annoying to see it.
Mind you, the petticoat on my mannaquin is deflated pretty hard, and this thing is capable of so much more poof, and actually lays better with a bigger petti under it (thank god). This is one of those cases where the mannaquin isn't as busty as I am, so the bodice fits funny on it, shirring or not.
The back is partially shirred, and it's awfully comfy. It's been a long time since I've attempted a short sleeved OP like this, as I'm very self-conscious about my arms, but this turned out really nicely, and I managed to finish it before church that morning. It only needed those 4 buttons anyhow. Paired with those black crochet gloves, that beret, pearls and a pair of black oxfords, it's a classic OP that I never knew I needed.
