Remember this thing? Yeah, let me tell you a story...
...It...didn't turn out all that well. The bodice was still unfinished as I closed into the final week before Sakura-con. The shape just refused to come together, no matter how I toyed, shaped, and cut the stupid thing. I ended up abandoning the project, and all the heavy embroidery that went with it. I had to accept my defeat with some measure of humility, chalk it up to experience, and move on. I was suddenly stuck with no big show-stopper to go to Sakura-con with, and all these extra accessories that once suited a dress I was no longer going to be able to wear. An idea hit me, inspired by Sorori's comment about her troubles with French Hoods. It struck me immediately; 'Holy crap, I have tons of extra gold lace, and the Kokoshnik could pass for a French Hood! LET'S GO TUDOR!' Remembering some curtain fabric in an antique shop, I used the left-over lace from the Romanov dress, along with an old blazer I found in the thrift-shop for the bodice fabric, and a lot of fabric dye, to create an emergency dress in about 2 and a half days of nonstop sewing! ...Ahahaha...

What did you learn?: WHEN GIVEN A GOAL I AM A UNSTOPPABLE MONSTER. ...Also I should not marathon sewing anymore while putting Survival Horror Lets-Plays on in the background. The night before I was finished, after 16 solid hours of sewing, I was starting to see seam lines in human skin. I needed sleep, which is a terrible thing to skip before con.
Are you Happy with it?: ...80%. Considering the pressure I placed on myself, I did a damn fine job. It's lined, it fits, it looks incredible. That said, I wish I had more lace to place across the bottom hem. It just looks a touch bare. There's also some serious clean-up needed on the inside.
Forgive the wrinkles. I literally JUST unpacked it. I caught con-plague, and it kept me flat on my back, weak, and miserable for nearly a solid week after Sunday.
All the lace had to be tea-dyed, as it was ENTIRELY too white before. If you remember the gold shoes from my last post, I actually tore the old bows off and redid them with left-over fabric. I had literally nothing left when I was done, so everything was used.
Here's a worn pic, from the Sakura-con Lolita Fashion Show on sunday morning! Forgive the awkward shape. I didn't notice my petticoat was bunching up until after I got off-stage. ASDKFASDFADSFKDF- The girls back stage nicknamed me 'Scarlett O'Hara' after I told them what the dress used to be.
Thanks for tuning in ladies! Onward, to the next project! ...Maybe! I'm kind of burnt out right now.
