I finally received the fabric for my overskirt last weekend so it was time to begin this project!
So I started with the underskirt because I wanted to know the final length my overskirt had to be for this to work.
As normal, the floor was covered with metres of frills as I decided to change by plans for the underskirt. Rather then making it half frilly and half patterned fabric, I decided to make it into a reversible underskirt!
No petticoat underneath at the moment as I could not be bothered to get it out but with the amount of frills on it at the moment this underskirt can act nicely as a casual petticoat. Although it is a bit wrinkly at the moment but with a bit of ironing it should be fine. Although this underskirt will require a bit of maintenance since it is made from lawn cotton which wrinkles like there is no tomorrow. However it is lovely and soft.
UPDATE
So this weekend I was determine to finish the overskirt and hair accessories and I almost did it!
Here you can clearly see the two looks that I want to achieve. I ran out of time in making the waist ties but when I do, I will be able to create a third look where I turn the right skirt backwards and I will have a back bustled skirt with a bow at the front (or back)!
Of course I had to make some matching hair accessories so I made a simple navy blue ribbon hairband bow with two detachable bows. I also had a boater hat lying around so with a piece of scrap navy fabric, I made a band and attached the two detachable bows. I do have some of the pattern fabric left but not a lot so I am thinking of other accessories I can make as I do not want to waste it.
And now I can rest.......
