Hello everyone!
  • My name is Autumn and I'm from Texas in the US. I am actually more of a "quarterly lolita," meaning I wear lolita maybe four times a year   >.< I consider myself more of a fairy kei girl. But I love designing costumes and I love historical fashion.
  • I am also kinda amateur at sewing right now even though I've made a handful of things ( Read more... )

If you don't want to go through the hassle of taking off the whole skirt, I would try just removing the lace around the sash. In my opinion it doesn't look too bad, and you might not mind it as much without all the lace on it.

Thanks for the input ^_^

Well I have taken off all the lace. It does look better, but I think my major problem with it is that the actual ties in the back (non-detachable) are 3/4" (2cm) wider than the false sash in the front and there isn't enough seam allowance on it to really widen it either. Also, I guess I'd like to remove it so that it helps make the bodice look more elongated and nicer.

I was really wanting to know if there was any kind of trick to keeping the gathers in a piece while you are seam ripping it.

Well don't I feel kinda ridiculous haha. I should've known, but I couldn't tell... there was definitely a stay-stitch where the gathers are! whew! I might wanna redirect this post though to changing out the yoke and collar to possibly white. Thanks!

I'm glad you worked it out. I don't stay stitch my gathers, so I didn't think they'd be there, but happy for you that they are!
I think that the ties are wider because they lend themselves to a fuller bow.

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished project.

Thanks so much! I hope to do a little step by step process since I've been taking pictures along the way so I hope it will be helpful to everyone who wants to reconstruct a BL dress ^.^ I might register it, but right now I need a plan
