Hello, everyone!
Recently I bought a bunch of fabrics and lace, and with the smell of vacation in the air I'm really excited to dive into many sewing projects! In fact, I might be a little too pumped, and some of these projects might not be completed as soon as I expect, but my plan is not to think about it and just do as much as I can!
My plan is to consolidate my Lolita wardrobe and introduce textures and prints - since I keep going back to the old plain cotton with a boring and easy minimalistic style.
Project Title: Black Jacquard and Chiffon OP
Short Project Description: Black on black jacquard bodice with a pointed waistline, gathered black chiffon skirt with a ruffle at the bottom. I'm still not sure if it will be XVI Century-inspired or a more traditional lolita XVIII Century thing. I also can't decide which side of the jacquard I like better - very open to suggestions on that, even though I might just find a way to include both!
Projected Deadline: Ideally it would be finished in about 2 weeks, but realistically speaking by the end of the month.
Pattern(s) Used: My first technically correct (or so I hope!) self-drafted pattern, following the method of my lovely instructor.
Materials needed: Jacquard, chiffon, plain cotton fabric for lining the skirt, possibly lace and ribbon, an invisible zipper, pin backs.
Challenges or obstacles: Keeping the seams neat. I plan to french-seam the chiffon, but the jacquard is quite heavy and I don't have a serger. Sewing the invisible zipper without using the appropriate foot. Actually making up my mind about the design!
Project Title: Dotty Black-and-White OP
Short Project Description: Free waist, long sleeved OP based on Angelic Pretty's Holy Lantern and Sugar Dream. The fabric is textured cotton (not sure what it's called in English, here we call it "popcorn"!) in black, with a white collar and cuffs. I don't have enough of the textured fabric for the whole dress, and if I can't find it anymore there will be a change of plans: the main part of the dress will be plain black, and only the sleeves and bottom ruffle will be dotted.
Projected Deadline: By the end of the month.
Pattern(s) Used: Self-drafted pattern.
Materials needed: Black "popcorn" cotton, off-white plain cotton, black plain cotton for the lining, buttons (I'm thinking tiny golden ones with pearls), off-white lace.
Challenges or obstacles: Finding the exact same dotted fabric to complete the dress. The cuffs sound like they might be problematic.
Project Title: Savior Petticoat
Short Project Description: Hopefully the last knee-length A-line petticoat I will ever need. Black organza, three tiers, a single layer, slightly elastic waistband, button closing, lined. I am so tired of all the hard work of making a tulle petti, only for it to die on me.
Projected Deadline: Early December tops.
Pattern(s) Used: Freestyle!
Materials needed: Lots of black organza, plain cotton for the lining, black elastic, a button, black grosgrain ribbon.
Challenges or obstacles: Having the patience to actually sew it. I dislike making pettis, such a time-consuming activity. To make it worse, sewing with organza is very hard. Hopefully this petticoat will last!
Question: do you think ~3 times my waist on the top tier (6 and 12 on the bottom tiers) is enough for a petticoat?
Project Title: Oldschool JSK
Short Project Description: Black and white, oldschool BABY inspired JSK, with lots of cotton lace and ribbons and whatnot. With a relatively high waist, low skirt volume, a bit on the short side, probably front lacing.
Projected Deadline: Anytime during December.
Pattern(s) Used: Self-drafted.
Materials needed: Black cotton, lots of white cotton lace, black ribbon, elastic.
Challenges or obstacles: Finding different types of cotton lace that match and that I like.
Project Title: Oldschool Peak-a-Bloomers
Short Project Description: Black and white, oldschool BABY inspired long bloomers/knickers, made to peek a little from under that Oldschool JSK.
Projected Deadline: Anytime during December.
Pattern(s) Used: Self-drafted.
Materials needed: Black cotton, lots of white cotton lace, black ribbon, elastic.
Challenges or obstacles: Not looking ita, haha.
Project Title: Burgundy and Beige OP
Short Project Description: This project is still distant so I don't have a clear outline, but I want it to be burgundy/wine, with golden beige lace. The main fabric should have some kind of texture, delicate floral or stripe pattern.
Projected Deadline: Preferably before my vacation is over (2014).
Pattern(s) Used: Self-drafted.
Materials needed: Wine-colored fabric, beige embroidered tulle lace.
Challenges or obstacles: Finding or dyeing the lace.
Project Title: Chess Rose Print OP
Short Project Description: Black bodice, gathered skirt featuring my original print "Chess Rose", three layers of black tulle ruffles at the bottom. A simple yet striking piece, I'm so excited about the prospect of wearing my own print!
Projected Deadline: Anytime during December.
Pattern(s) Used: Self-drafted.
Materials needed: Black fabric, original print fabric, delicate net tulle, possibly elastics, zipper, lace, ribbon.
Challenges or obstacles: Finding a place that will print on few meters of fabric with quality and for a fair price.
And this is all the lace I bought. I used some of it to make accessories, but there is still quite a lot left and I plan to buy moar.
Bonus pic!
Forgive me if I got too carried away!
Any tips are very much appreciated (:
