Want to do a Moitie replica ~ Fabric and pattern help?

Apr 18, 2012 12:34

I'm planning on making a copy of a MMM JSK that I absolutely love. I want to get as close to the original as I can, however.... I've run into a bit of a snag.

I have no idea what kind of pattern to use, or where the frill I'm supposed to get blue plaid!

This is the dress in question. I more or less understand how I would construct the skirt. But that bodice.... I don't think I've ever seen a pattern that has the straps and side front/side back panels all cut as one piece that includes the shoulder strap (if that made any sense I'll be surprised, but I can't figure out how to word it).

Does anyone have any patterns to share for that kind of thing? I'm familiar with modifying patterns (especially making them larger, since I fall only an inch or two outside of the "misses" section half the time)) to a certain degree, but I'm a bit at a loss with how to start here!

I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions on what pattern to use, and where to go for a blue plaid fabric. My backup for the fabric will probably be a Spoonflower design, but I would like to avoid that if I could, since the black isn't always "black" enough.... Suggestions for trim would also be welcome!

Can't wait to hear from you, lovelies, and thank you~
