Cabinets / Blanket Boxes ?

Doing shopping research for the move-in next week, and I've hit a bit of a snag. :/

I was browsing through my Ikea catalog (lulz) looking for bedroom space solutions and saw a helpful tip for turning low cabinets into seating areas with some well placed throws and cushions on top.
The cabinets they have pictured are these ones. Obviously, I'd go in for the cheaper options, but they're still pricey at $70, and I'd likely have to buy more than one.
My mum suggested I get a blanket box instead since they're larger and sturdier, but after browsing a few websites I've determined that no affordable modern furniture stores even sell blanket boxes these days.

Does anybody know of a place (that I can find semi-locally) that sells that sort of stuff?
*sigh* I guess my next step is to hit up consignment centers and thrift stores. I'm all for reusing old things if they aren't ugly, but I'm also less likely to find what I'm looking for that way.

I decided today that I would like my room to be primarily white with some small, brightly-colored highlights. I found a nice-looking bedsheet set for $14 in Target that fit the theme, so I bought it. C:

Tested out my brother's old bed today and found it to my satisfaction. Mum agreed to take me to the hardware store tomorrow so that I can paint the wooden bedframe white to match my desired theme. xB;
