Sorry to say, I really don't feel as excited about this as I expected. The last twenty four episodes fell so short of my expectations that i don't care anymore. R2 has been one big disappointment after another. The first ten episodes or so were all crap that felt like fillers or something, with Lelouch reliving the whole first goddamn season. It picked up around the middle with Emperor ugly-yet-GAR, and went downhill again. I'm just watching for the lulz and my occasional nicotine dose of Sunrise WTFery. But enough drama. Plenty of that to go around this episode....
-I still don't understand the title Re;. Especially not the semicolon.
-FUCK YES, KAGUYA. Even C.C. admits she's awesome; "even though you haven't seen his true face until recently, you understood part of his true nature". So, on the ladder of which harem members understands him best: C.C., Kaguya, Kallen, Nunnally. LOL at alphabetical order. But srsly... Have I mentioned lately how absolutely smitten I am with Kaguya? Best side charater evar.
-I love how Villetta runs into Cornelia's room to watch the news and no one bats an eyelash. It's like, "yeah, we knew you were eavesdropping there all along."
-Lelouch is only the second whatchamacallit chairman of the UFN? Who's number one? KAGUYA?! FUCK YES, I LOVE THS GIRL MORE AND MORE EACH SECOND.
-Nunnally's execution outfit screams kinky sex fanservice. I mean, really, what the hell? Give her more pink and less cleavage.
-Just wondering.... Has "All hail Lelouch!" struck anyone else as a really odd motto? I mean, that's his first name... Sort of, you know, intimate and not powerful-sounding...? Or is this like how everyone calls Napoleon by his first name?
-OMG OMG OMG, THE SCENE WITH "ZERO" AND LELOUCH........!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S SO......!!!! I DON'T EVEN KNOW THE WORD. BEAUTIFUL? SYMBOLIC? CONCLUSIVE? WHO CARES?! IT'S FUCKING WIN BEYOND WORDS.
-I love, love, love the idea of Zero killing Lelouch because it has mutliple layers of meanings, which I'm such a sucker for. You can say that Zero, which is the ideal of justice rather than any single person, is the only to bring peace to the world and kill the tyrant. You can also say that in becoming Zero and choosing a path of no return, Lelouch himself died. And then, and then, and then there's the idea of preserving this ideal of justice to the people, who were disillusioned when Zero "betrayed" them. AND OMG, EVERYTHING ABOUT IT JUST MAKES ME SQUEE SO MUCH.
-LELOUCH, I'M SORRY I EVER DOUBTED YOU AND THOUGHT YOU WERE BECOMING CORRUPTED BY POWER. I'M A TERRIBLE FANGIRL.
-AND OMG, KALLEN. Poor girl keeps on getting misled and realizes things too late.... (Which is why C.C. and Kaguya pwn her) This reminds me of my English class... We were just discussing what the most tragic recognition was on Friday, and were saying that it's when you recognize it right after it's too late. D= My point: English class is relevant.
-I ALSO LOVE HOW LELOUCH IS PUNISHED FOR HIS SINS WITH DEATH, AND SUZAKU WITH LIFE.
-I WOULD REALLY, REALLY LIKE TO INTERPRET KALLEN'S LINE "THAT'S ZERO" AS HER TALKING ABOUT LELOUCH AND NOT SUZAKU. That is, Lelouch has finally shown his true colors. He is, in fact, the self-sacrifical hero he donned the mask on, the ally of justice, the defender of the weak.
-GAH, MORE PARALLELISM. REMEMBER BACK IN SEASON 1, WHEN ZERO DECLARED THE FOUNDING OF THE UNITED STATES OF JAPAN AND EVERYONE WAS ALL "ZERO ZERO ZERO!" to the backdrop of Euphie dying?!
-Coming back down to earth for a minute now... I'm a bit divided on whether I think Lelouch is alive, and even whether I want him to be alive or not. On one hand, because Lelouch is such a tragic hero, he needs to die and take the burden of his sins. I feel that letting him live really takes away from the gravity of his choice to sacrifice himself and (somewhat) the happiness of the people who love him for a more peaceful world.
But on the other hand, having Lelouch die detracts from C.C.'s ending. Making her be all alone again, having gained nothing but memories from the experience is just...not right.
And then there's the popular fan speculation that Lelouch is the carriage driver. While keeping a mask on has a practical purpose (both in the story and out, since Taniguchi likes to toy with us, and people would probably recognize Lelouch's face), it doesn't make sense on a symbolic level. All these episodes later, Lelouch has finally been true to himself and now he just...dons on a mask again?
-The last, last scene with C.C. staring at a castle... I can't seem to make head or tail of it. The castle immediately seems to suggest royalty, so perhaps she's thinking about Lelouch? But that seems so clear cut and not very meaningful.... Is it supposed to be a symbol of how Lelouch has done so much and is the true hero, but isn't acknowledged for it? (But of course, the question is why C.C. would be the one staring at the castle then....)
-And lastly, about C.C.'s name.... It would be nice to call her by something that isn't weird to type out and doesn't sound weird when you say it out loud in front of people not familiar with the fandom.... But in a sense, I guess the producers are saying that who she was doesn't matter so much as who she is and who she will be (referring back to that whole theme on looking to the future and not the past), so I don't really mind so much.
-I demand a spinoff. Because this peaceful world that Lelouch has created will not last. Inevitably, as generations go on, people will no longer remember a tyraniccal king and will no longer cherish the peace they have. Inevitably, humans will start warring again because it is simply in their nature to do so. And inevitably, more blood must be shed to maintain the peace. (Pst, does this sound like a mature argument for "I want to see C.C. with a cooler guy who won't die of muscle atrophy after climbing a flight of stairs and will make a goddamn choice between his harem members"?)
If these demands aren't met... Prepare for a shitload of C.C. fanfics from me. One for each popular theory if I can help it. I know I'm fucking insane; shut up.
BTW, sorry about typos. I'm too spazzy right now to read it over again.
