Know Hope

Okay - this is my bi-yearly entry spamming my f-list, all of whom I hope will forgive me, even though I promised when they friended me that I would never do it.

The euphoria I felt when Obama won was tempered by the vote in California for Prop 8.  I donated money (that I could ill afford) for the first time, in a national election, for Obama (but I got the tee-shirt), and then for the No on Prop 8 fight.  We won one, but came in a little short on the other.  I'm not giving up, and history tells us that these unfortunate setbacks can't stop the march for equality in the long run.  It will happen.  In ten or fifteen years, a new generation will wonder why it was ever even a contentious issue - just as my children look back on what they consider ancient history, when people of color were considered not worthy of full citizenship, and the thought that a mixed-race man, named Barack Obama, could be President of the United States, would have been incomprehensible.

Know Hope.
