Snape's Impossible Dream

princessofsnark  and I have discussed the song "The Impossible Dream" several times, remarking on how appropriate it is as theme song for Snape's life. And now she's created the beautiful wallpaper below with the lyrics, and since they capture the essence of Snape's journey, I thought it would be such great first post here on Severmore.

Just a little background: The Impossible Dream was written in 1965 for the musical "Man of La Mancha" based on Don Quixote. There are hundreds of different recordings ~ see list here. Non-theatrical versions from artists such as Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams, and Jack Jones (above) changed some of the lyrics. I guess they didn't think the idea of loving "pure and chaste from afar" would sell albums, but the changed lyrics are still appropriate.
