Wednesday Reading Meme

What I Just Finished Reading: I only had time to finish the one I'd started and read one more this week. It was a lot of sitting in front of the computer trying to snipe a file, as it is VERY slow this month. I guess a lot of lawyers just take most of December off. Eeek.

I read Remainders of the Day by Shaun Bythell, the third in his Diary of a Bookseller series. And then I read The Prince and the Apocalypse, an adorable YA. Reviews below.

What I'm Reading Right Now: I'm reading Hitchers by Will McIntosh. A few people who were legally dead before being revived find that they may have some brought some hitchhikers back from the underworld. I'm liking it so far.

What I'm Planning to Read Next: Next up will definitely be Baal by Robert McCammon, which I didn't have time for this week, and then probably whatever book is picked as my Gridlock pick on Saturday, and hopefully also Until Tuesday, about a dog who helps a soldier with PTSD.

THEN. It'll be next Wednesday, which means it'll be one week before Christmas, and it'll be time to pull out the Christmas books!

143. Remainders of the Day by Shaun Bythell

The third diary from the owner of the largest second-hand bookshop in Scotland, with 100,000 books in stock. Reading this volume is like visiting old friends. Emanuela, nicknamed Granny for her regular grumping about her physical ailments, has now moved to Wigtown permanently. Sandy the Tattooed Pagan still drops in regularly to trade walking sticks for book credit and discuss mysticism with the customers. Captain the cat is still the bestest boy, and Shaun is kept busy gallivanting throughout Scotland doing book deals, having many a pub and wine night, and keeping track of all those books. I never thought reading diary entries would be so enjoyable.

144. The Prince and the Apocalypse by Kara McDowell

Stuck in London with only a week until a comet strike is set to wipe out the world, an American teen agrees to help the runaway Prince of Wales escape his parents in return for a flight back to Chicago.

This was a delightfully sweet little comedy-romance. Wren and an undercover Prince Theo stumble their way across five different European countries while evading the press, “the Firm,” civilians on the search, and the breakdown of society while managing to rescue a dog and fall in love. I enjoyed every minute of their adventures.
