Wednesday Reading Meme

What I Just Finished Reading: I ended up going to my sister's place on the weekend and was too tired to read. This was actually the first time this year that I went two days in a row without reading! So, only two books since last week: The Outsider by Jimmy Connors and Flesh & Bone by Jonathan Maberry. Reviews below.

What I'm Reading Right Now: I finished my last book before bed last night, so I haven't started anything else yet.

What I'm Planning to Read Next: Next up is a library book, The Second Sleep by Robert Harris.

90. The Outsider by Jimmy Connors

Jimmy Connors didn’t pull his punches on the tennis court, and I can mostly say the same for this memoir, as he discusses his childhood, his wild ride as the brash #1 seed in the world, his rivalries with McEnroe and Borg, and his inevitable decline as the younger pups finally surpassed him. Connors was always my favourite player and I enjoyed getting to know him. He’s as honest as he can be here - if occasionally he doesn’t exactly overflow with details, he also doesn’t flinch from telling the truth about his life, which included some funny business by his brother and a surprising revelation about Chris Evert. I enjoyed his honesty and all the behind the scenes details about his matches.

91. Flesh & Bone by Jonathan Maberry

In the third installment of the Rot & Ruin series, Benny and his friends are struggling to deal with their grief while still continuing their search for the plane they saw and facing a new adversary. This was a fast-paced story with an interesting new villain and an appearance by Joe Ledger, the star of another of Maberry’s series. More good zombie action. I also like the way Maberry writes his teens. They’re clearly young but they’re struggling to talk things out in a world where they had to grow up too fast. Also fun was more intertwining of various zombie words, this time with a reference to “Sheriff Rick.” Hmm. LOL
